Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Acton, California? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Acton?
KATHY EDISS reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Acton is at 3000' above sea level so the winters are quite cold - 20 to 50 degrees with occasional snow. The summers are very warm - 50's to 100's. There is also a 30% chance that the wind will be blowing at least 30 to 50 mph though out the year. The town is relatively small, population about 3,000 full time residents, so the crime is very low. An occasional burglary or home robbery. The homes are more ranches on lots at least 2 1/2 acre so home robberies are more prevalent. The majority of homes are on at least 2 1/2 acre with horse and animal facilities. These homes are very nice and valued at plus $400's .There are only about 10% rental units and low income housing lived in by majority of Hispanics. The people are animal lovers and treat their animals almost better than people. But they do have a great compassion and friendly atmosphere. Caucasian is the majority race at 90% in Acton with the balance of 10% being mixed race, Hispanic and African American.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown is one street with a market, diner and small boutique store. It's very rustic, wood sidewalk, horse tie-ups and pizza. To do 'real' shopping you have to go to Palmdale or Valencia. The closet best restaurant is BJ's Brewery and The Olive Garden in Palmdale. There is a small diner in town that serves good food for breakfast and lunch. The public schools are small due to the population and go from Kindergarten to high school. A local college is south to Valencia or north to Palmdale. Not much of a singles town due to the size and limited number of meeting places such as bars, movies, malls.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
It is pretty quiet in Acton except for an occasional plane flying over head. There is a major freeway that cuts right thru town but since Acton is not a big city and traffic is not an issue, the noise is insignificant.Acton has Palmdale located 10 miles to the north. It is a major city very unlike Acton. And to the south there is Aqua Dulce, another horse and ranch town. Also to the south is the major city of Valencia. The best hospital is in Valencia - The Henry Mayo Clinic. Very big and modern. The nicest places to visit are the privately owned horse ranches. Some even rent horses for tourists.
General comments
If you are an animal lover - horses, cows, ducks, chickens - you will love this town. There are horse friendly tie-up areas at the store and local bar. It's friendly and fun.
