Charles Langat reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Alexandria has a moderate climate. August is the hottest months with temperatures soaring to 79'F degrees while February is the coldest with temperatures averaging 37'F. precipitation is highest in June. Flooding from tropical storms is a common problem in Alexandria especially along the Potomac river and its tributaries. While I've not been mugged, I can say violent crime particularly aggravated assault and sex offences accounts for a great percentage of crime in Alexandria. Break-ins and street violence are also not uncommon especially among the Hispanic community.Waynewood, Rosemont, Beverly Hills, and Del Ray are great neighborhoods. They are family-friendly, safe, and walkable. You can walk with ease from your home to school, library, and even the coffee shops. These sides are clean and have the lowest crime in Alexandria. Old Town is also a nice and safe area to live. The East side and the Northern end of Green line have some of the safest neighborhoods. Capitol Hill (NE & SW) and Southern end of Green Line aren't great place. Arlandria along Mt Vernon Ave, is also notable for its high crime rate compared to other areas of Alexandria.

Alexandria is a predominantly White's city, but it has a growing number of Afro-Americans and Asian communities who comprise 21% and 6% of the population. Each neighborhood in Alexandria is unique in its own way. Neighborhoods in Old Town have a blend of classic and modern architecture. Prices are a high because of its historic and touristic orientation. Del Ray has family-focused homes whole Crystal City has apartments. Though most neighborhoods are safe, house prices are crazy here.
Alexandria is a progressive and culturally diverse city. Folks here are, for the most part, pleasant and friendly. Most people here are highly-educated and liberal in their views and not ethnic centered like most cities in the South states. As an upper middle-income city, Alexandria provides the best opportunities and convenience for educated folks who don't want the hustle and bustle of large cities.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
Alexandria downtown area is an incredible place that boasts of world class shopping facilities, ethnic restaurants, bars, art shops, and a vibrant nightlife. If you love shopping, dining, or sightseeing, Alexandria will live up to your expectations. At any given time, I'd recommend you go out and dine at Vermilion or Barbo Restaurant. If you love Spanish or Italian Cuisine, Geranio Ristorante and La Tasca are superb options. The quality of public schools in Alexandria is varied. Some are good while some are not good ( it depends on the neighborhood). Generally, most schools are decent, but the quality could be much better if the administration focused on school enrichment programs.Alexandria has great opportunities for singles . The city offers a wide array of entertainment joints, restaurants, and shopping facilities. Summers are fun-filled featuring concerts and a great deal of outdoor activities for single and families alike.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Ronald Reagan National Airport is in proximity to Old Town Alexandria. You can expect noise and turbulence.Alexandria is a smaller city compared to the bigger and bureaucratic Washington, but it still offers the convenience and peace of a small town environment that Washington doesn't offer. The cost of living in Alexandria is much lower than Washington and pretty much the same as Fairfax which has a better public school system.Inova Fairfax hospital is an excellent and high-performing facility that provides more than 10 specialties. MedStar Washington Hospital Center is also a decent hospital to visit.Old Town Alexandria is a historic gem which has enthralling sites and architecture. If you love outdoors, you can go biking on a 18 miles bike trail along the Potomac River.
General comments
Alexandria is a fantastic city and culturally diverse city. Constantly ranked highly as one of the best cities to work and live in the US. Folks are more educated and liberal while the atmosphere is vibrant and community varied. Housing is still expensive, but most neighborhoods are safe and walkable. Overally, neighborhoods are charming, downtown shopping facilities accessible, the public transport system is decent, and the healthcare fantastic.
