Heather Nance reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in Angleton, TX is typical of your warmer coastal south Texas town. It is very hot and humid in the summer months from about mid March until about late September. It generally will stay in the high 90's during the summer months. The humidity is what makes it feel a lot hotter during the day than it actually is. It doesn't rain all that much during the summer it tends to be rather dry but instead of seeing snow in the winter months we will see a lot of rain and drizzly days. You do need to worry about hurricanes during hurricane season and high winds during thunder storms. There is not a lot of crime inside of Angleton, TX. Angleton is the capital of Brazoria County so that is where the courthouse is and it also has its own public bus system. The worst thing I have heard about in Angelton,TX is someone car getting broken into. I have not personally experienced any crime and I feel safe doing my shopping and traveling around Angleton. The nicer parts of town are going to be closer to business 288. There is a really nice street that is very heavily wooded with oak trees next to Arby's Restaurant. It has some very nice homes and a predominately Caucasian upper class neighborhood on the street. Some of the rougher neighborhoods are located behind the courthouse on the back roads of business 35. This is the lower income neighborhoods that is predominately Hispanic with some older less kept homes on these streets. The people of Angleton seem to be pretty accepting of any ethnicity. It has a good mix of various races and ages. There is a lot of work available in this town and a lot to do. If you are older you would fine things to do such as the lions club and if you are younger there are a couple of bars located off of business 288 that have various things to do. If you are of a hippie type mind set you may have a hard time fitting into Angleton just because this is more of a blue collar country type of town and you may not find as many things to do that interest you.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
There are a lot of thrift stores to choose from in Angelton to shop at. There is also a Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree and Kroger as well as HEB for grocery stores. There is this one restaurant called La Casona that has the best Mexican food you can find. It has homemade tortillas that I highly recommend as well as their fajitas and chimicangas. There is also a really good doughnut bakery called Billy's doughnuts that has very good doughnut holes and kolaches for the mornings.Angleton school district is a good school district. The high school was just built a couple of years ago and it is a big nice high school. The sports teams do rather well in Angleton and I know some of the students have gone to play for bigger colleges after high school. There are a couple of bars located off of business 288 for the singles and it is a good place for someone to go hang out and meet other people in Angleton. I also noticed that a group of people go to Whataburger in the mornings to socialize as well.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There isn't a whole lot of unusual noise. Angleton is right next to highway 288 so if you live on that side of town you will hear traffic from the highway. There is also a train that goes through town so you will occasionally hear the train at night as it travels through Angleton. If you were to compare Angleton to nearby cities such as Freeport, TX or Danbury, TX. There is more to do in Angleton than in Danbury, TX. Angleton has its own bus system so if you don't have reliable transportation that makes it easier to commute and get to where you need to go. It also has a Wal-Mart and plenty of other stores that nearby Danbury, TX does not have available. Freeport is near the beach so in the summertime months it can get rather crowded in Freeport, TX. Angleton is about 10 minutes from the beach but doesn't have all of the summer tourist that nearby Freeport, TX does.Angelton-Danbury hospital is the closest hospital. It has treated myself and my family numerous times and it is a very good knowledgeable hospital. There are a couple of various parks in Angelton that are worth going too. There is also a couple of nice baseball fields and one of the parks has a really nice walking trail.
General comments
Overall Angleton leaves a good impression for me. It is a nice country town in south Texas. It has plenty to do and the people I have met have been generally pretty friendly overall. If you need help there is always someone willing to help you out. My car broke down at the grocery store one time and I had several people stop and ask me if I needed help, that is hard to find in your bigger towns.
