Lucy Monie reports in this review:

Ashland falls within a drier and sunnier climate zone than many towns in the pacific northwest, due to its location near the Oregon Coast Range. In winter, temperatures drop to just below freezing overnight but get up to around 50 during the day. In summer, the temperature ranges from 50 overnight up to the high 80s during the day.Ashland is on the whole an extremely safe and community-oriented town. There are the usual break-ins, thefts and robberies on a small scale, but rather bizarrely there were three quite creepy murders a couple of years back, which I believe remain unsolved. Most areas in Ashland are fine, and the areas closest to the college are lively and the downtown area is attractive. Nearby Medford is less attractive and desirable than Ashland itself. This is a very friendly and warm college town with a progressive ethos. You should note that if you have a dog, that the town is not friendly towards dogs.
Downtown AreaSchoolsSingle lifetown comparison vs.
The downtown area is great for shopping and wandering around. It has lots of independent boutiques and cafes. The Ashland school district is excellent. It's a college town, so it's a great place for younger single people to meet others.Ashland is much nicer than nearby Medford, but if you're keen on outdoor sports, you're better off in Bend.

Ashland Community HospitalThe creek and Lithia Park are great for a walk, but they are not good for dogs, which are not permitted. It's a lively, liberal college town. It has an annual Shakespeare festival and excellent food and shopping for a town of this size.
