Erika Cox reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Blue Springs has the typical Midwestern weather. Four distinct seasons. Springs are nice with flowers and greenery blossoming. Summers are hot and humid. Falls are crisp and a beautiful time of the year with the leaves on the trees changing colors. There are hills of beautiful trees. Winters are cold with various amounts of snowfall. Since this is the Midwest, Tornadoes can occur. The heaviest rain is during the Spring and Fall seasons.Crime in Blue Springs is pretty rare. Most crimes are of the burglary and theft nature. Of course, murders can happen anywhere but the murder rate is pretty low at less than 50 murders per year. There are not many drive-by shootings or gang related crimes. There are not many cities that don't have a worse part of town but Blue Springs is one of them. Crime is fairly low so the worse part of town would be the area near Lake Jacomo which can see a lot of traffic during the summer, late spring, and early fall months. The best parts of the town to live are Lakewood, Heatherwood Estates, and Willowbrook. These neighborhoods are very well-kept, middle-class, and quiet neighborhoods. The homes are pretty new, most being less than 50 years old.The residents are pretty conservative and have a sense of community. There is a sense of small town living although there are many attractions and things to do. Most of the residents are middle-age. There is a nice size single base. Most people are educated and work white-collar jobs. Not too many hippies or alternative lifestyles. The city has a growing mixture of races with the majority White Americans. The next largest racial population is African American. There is a nice size population of Asians.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
Blue Springs downtown and shopping area gets a 5 rating. There are shops, retails, and restaurants but the residents usually travel to Independence or elsewhere to shop. There's not much of a downtown area. It consists of a few government buildings and that's it. Many residents live in Blue Springs but work in other parts of the metro. You can get a taste of that favorite KC BBQ at Zarda BBQ and Texas Roadhouse. If you have a taste for Mexican food, try Real Jalisco Fine Mexican. Enjoy a Mongolian dish at BD's Mongolian Grill. Take in some Chinese food at the Legend of Asia. The quality of Blue Springs School District is exceptional. The graduation rate is at least 90%.There are a few bars located in Blue Springs. But there is not much in the way of major attractions for singles. Like many areas in this part of the Midwest, Blue Springs is more of a family oriented town. However, singles often go to other parts of the metro for activities.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Blue Springs is a quiet town with very little, if any, unusual noises.Blue Springs is a much better place to live in than Raytown, MO or Independence, MO, all three are located East of Kansas City and within 15-20 minutes of each other. Blue Springs is less crowded than Raytown. Although the racial diversity is not as much as Raytown, the crime rate is lower. Compared to Independence, Blue Springs is much more spawning and progressive. Independence is more conservative or small-minded than Blue Springs is although the population and area of both cities are about the same. The most popular hospital is Research Medical Center which has locations throughout the metropolitan area. Research is a major employer and hospital in the city.Lake Jacomo is one of the nicest places to visit. It is a large lake where people go to fish, sailboat, and have picnics. Another popular place is the Phil Stark Gallery, which showcases all types of exhibits, and has a library.
General comments
This town feels like your average suburban town. It is a growing city, with many new homes and neighborhoods popping up. The houses are mid-sized and the neighborhoods are spacious. There are plenty of parks with walking trails near creeks to enjoy nature. There is Fleming Park and Adair Park that provides plenty of space to walk, walk your dog, and enjoy the weather. The city has the feel of a small city with access to many large city attractions.
