Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
Summers are warm but not exceptionally hot. It tops out around 95 most of the time. Winters are cold and there will be a few snowy days but not a constant snow cover. Frequent thunderstorms during the spring and summer. | | A pastor in a church in Brandenburg was accused of molesting some children in the congregation recently. I don't think it's gone to court yet. | | There are some newer developments where lots of people who work at Ft. Knox live and most of the subdivisions are nicer. However, a lot of the areas have mobile homes and older homes in disrepair and there are a lot of people who are very low income because of lack of good jobs in the area. | | The people are genuinely friendly. It's mostly white, though there are a few black people and latinos who have moved in who are connected with Ft. Knox. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
There is not much in the downtown area. The oldest downtown buildings are falling apart but there are a few stores on another strip in town. | | There are some dining options in Brandenburg, though not many. The best restaurant is probably Jailhouse Pizza. They have fantastic New York-style pizza and it sits in an old jail that overlooks the Ohio River and still has cells. | | The public schools are adequate though not the best in the area. They're country schools with only one high school in the county. | | There are very few, if any, opportunities for singles because it's such a small town. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
There is little unusual noise but may be more air traffic than some places because of nearby Ft. Knox. | | It's smaller than Elizabethtown or Louisville, where most people would go for shopping or entertainment but it's larger than any of the outlying towns. It's the county seat of Meade County and home of the middle and high schools as well as the county fairgrounds. | | There is only one small hospital in Brandenburg, a county facility. If someone is in the military they might be transported to the hospital on base, otherwise they would probably go to Louisville. | | The nicest places to visit would be Jailhouse Pizza and Riverfront Park, which sits below the pizza place and right on the Ohio River. It has an amphitheatre, play area, walking trails, etc. |
General comments | | | | | | |
The town feels very welcoming, but it's very small and everyone knows everyone, so if you're new, it's very obvious. It's incredibly country. Most of the people farm or do work related to farming. People are into things like demolition derbies and car racing. | | | | | | |
