Life in Buchanan, Michigan

Buchanan Reviews Michigan Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Buchanan, Michigan? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Buchanan?
Tammy Foster reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
It can be really warm in Buchanan during summer, some people would even say it is hot. Temperatures range between 70 and 80 degrees, sometimes it can even reach somewhere into the 90's if you factor in humidity. In spring and fall, temperatures are usually between 45-60 degrees and they continue to fall as winter approaches. In the winter, temperatures can fall way below zero. It rains in spring, summer and fall, especially in June and August. You can expect to see snow on the ground in the wintertime. The two most common major crimes are burglaries and assaults that occur in Buchanan, on occasion you will hear about a robbery, an arson or an auto theft happening here, too. I have never heard of a murder taking place in this town. Once or twice a rape was reported, but this type of crime doesn't happen frequently. However, minor crimes do take place here like traffic violations, public disturbances and at times someone will get picked up for drunk driving or gets in trouble for disturbing the peace. There are some really nice houses on Glendora Road and Cleveland Avenue, many are were built years ago, but have been remodeled to offer a modern stylish design. Many residents consider this area of town a great safe place to live and visit. There are some older houses on 5th Street and 3rd Street, many of residents think this is an area of town that could be considered bad. In addition, this area of town is west of Highway 31. There are mostly white people living in Buchanan, but you can expect to see a few people from other races, too. The people here seem to be very nice for the most part, only once or twice my family came across a couple of folks who acted rude and snobbish. There are more white people living in this town than other races, but you should expect to see a few people from other races. It seems that about half of the people that we have spoken with in this town have been married or were in the past. I think anyone who is married with or without children would fit perfectly in this town, of coarse, you better make sure you like living with snow during the winter town because there is a lot of it here.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
There are several cool little shops in downtown, but one of my favorite places to visit downtown is a bistro that is located there.Wheatberry Restaurant offers some really tasty food. Love their ribs. The schools seem to be very good. Many singles travel into Niles when they want to mingle among other singles.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Nelson Airport is in Buchanan, the planes sometimes create loud noises. However, it doesn't appear to be a problem.Niles is a neighboring town to Buchanan, these two towns are about 12 minutes from one another. Niles is much larger than Buchanan, plus it offers more in regard to shopping. New Buffalo is about 30 minutes from Buchanan, making it another neighboring town to Buchanan. If you like living in bigger towns than Niles should be the best place for you to live, however, if you like smaller towns than either Buchanan or New Buffalo would be the best place for you to make a home.Lakeland Healthcare is where many people go for medical care, it is about 30 minutes from Buchanan.Fuller's Resort and Campground is a really nice place to relax. My family loves camping here.
General comments
The town offers beautiful scenery, it seems to be very clean. We visit here from time to time when you are traveling through to visit family members who live in New Buffalo, Michigan. It seems like every time we are in Buchanan it has grown in some fashion. For the most part, the people living here are nice enough. Overall, this is a peaceful relaxing place that my family likes visiting, I would recommend if you are ever in the area that you take the time to stop for a minute to check out the town.
