Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
Heavy snow in the winter. Up to 90's in the summers. Town is around a lake so flooding happens but Budd Lake is up a mountain, kinda, so it's rarer that most of the residential will get flooded.
It definitely gets humid being close to the lake, as well as freezing being close to the lake. The lake causes the weather to be much worse than it could be otherwise. | | Not too much crime as far as any major or bad crimes are concerned. At least not from what I know or what I've heard. The only major this is specifically DUI and younger people (high school aged) speeding and causing major accidents or deaths to themselves and/or others. Besides that, there isn't too much crimes. I'm sure the occasional store gets robbed. I'd be surprised to hear otherwise; but it's a pretty crime-less town. | | There are not really any bad parts of town, at all! Which I suppose would make every part of town "good!" The section of shops by the Panera Bread is nice, but yet I'm really just a fan of the town as a whole. It's very mingled and intermixed with different races, though there isn't too much in the ways of things to do.
The houses are nice. As I say below they look like summer homes converted into year round houses; but they're really nice to live in. | | There is a good mix of ethnicities and ages. Nobody really sticks out in this town because it's so mixed! There's not really a section of the town "designated" for the poorer or the richer as you'd see other places; everyone is more or less even.
I suppose if you were walking down the street yelling negative remarks at everyone that you might not fit in well in the town; but otherwise feel free to be yourself. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
It is very clean and has a few stores. There isn't much else to say besides that. There are a bunch of really quaint places to shop but there isn't a lot to do to really socialize in the town. | | Macaroni Grill, Longhorn, Panera. Other than that there are many fast food places or small "mom and pop" businesses which are hit or miss; but some are delicious! | | The public schools are very good. Well rated and good teachers. Personally the education system itself is flawed but from what I hear it's an excellent program at the schools. | | There are a few bars in town, but not really much more of a social scene than that. The family restaurants are nice, but you can't really socialize at them. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
Route 80 is relatively close, but there is a large business park next to it so it keeps the noise out of the residential areas which is nice! | | This town is on a mountain so to say. The town next to it in the valley constantly floods and is sort of the "bad part of town" because of the fact that it floods constantly. There's no real way to keep the houses looking nice and fresh if they're always flooding.
The town on the other side of the lake up the mountain is a wealthy town with large houses and has a clear household income boost from Budd Lake. That town is probably better to live in; though I must say they don't really have a city center whereas at least here in Budd Lake there's a sense of people doing the same things: shopping, etc. | | Hackettstown regional is approximately 10 min away. In all aspects it is an excellent hospital with great physicians and nurses taking amazing care of the patients. | | The lake for sure! You can't just name a place Budd Lake and then not have a good lake for people's lives to bud in. It's a great place to socialize with friends and family and it's a beautiful scenery. |
General comments | | | | | | |
It feels like a summer home kind of town that has been converted to year-round living. The whole town just feels like it was meant to only be inhabited during the summers. I suppose that's why some of the houses have fallen into disrepair: from being constantly lived in.
Ultimately it's not a bad place to live and the feeling while walking around is kinda dead but not completely dead because the different restaurants keep it alive. | | | | | | |
