Burlington Reviews North Dakota Message Board

Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Burlington, North Dakota? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Burlington?
Shelby reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather is always interesting- able to leap from negative 60 degrees F to 30 about zero all in the same winter day. The coldest month being january and warmest being July- the summers stay pretty solid between 70-85. Watch out for the extremely heavy windy and inevitable rainfall. ND has also been known to hail in the middle of summer. Keep an eye on the weather radar at all times while in ND. Definitely a place where the seasons are serious. and 'Weather' could mean an entire array of things.Lately with the population increase- crime has been on the rise. Break ins every few days, assult charges being filed, somebody waved a gun around the bar last night are sxome normal chats for Burlington dwellers... It has gotten more serious as of recent though. You always need to be on alert, locking your doors, putting everything you own away and closing your garage door at night, even locking your car doors while filling up with gas. It's horrible! You can never be too safe and if you're in North Dakota you can thank President Obama for sending us all the who's who of ex cons to help us clean up and rebuild after the huge flood in 2011.The best parts of town are OUTSIDE the town. Any direction you travel- you'll see the part of ND that is called The Rolling Hills. This is where doctors and any type of wealthy family would go to build. They are absolutely gorgeous but few and far between. A few areas have the more art deco/contemporary home style while other brag up our ND history by sticking with the ranch or farm-style home.
There are animals everywhere so don't be surprised to see them. Cows, Chickens, Horses, Pigs, Turkeys, Sheep, anything you can imagine on a farm is running loose in ND. Even moose and elk and deer! One time I had to wait in line at wendys because I was being blocked by a moose for 20 min. They finally has animal control come in and take him out of city limit. The thing to keep in mind around here is that- anything goes.
If you are trying to decide whether you'll fit in or not- please remember that there are basically no true ND Natives here anymore. Everyone is new therefore nobody belongs! You've got people from every crook and cranny of this wonderful world including foreigners to the US! There is such good paying work here for ANYONE who can lift a shovel. Why would=n't someone pounce of that option? You must! But you must be sure you know where you're going as well. We have everyone from the rich white and educated, the hippies, the native americans, the blacks, the whites (80%) and everyone here is blue collar. Everyone here is only here for the pay check. And you might as well get your cut while you can.

Like I said before- go to Minot for your shopping needs. Food, Clothing, Animal help, Equipment parts, anything- GO TO MINOT! Burlington may have nee the first established city in ND, But Minot is the MAGIC CITY.The Hacienda. Its wonderful- but not Mexican- anything but. Burgers, Fish, Steak< Crab, anything you can imagine. Just be sure to always ask for their special secret orange sauce- ITS AMAZING!Send your kids to Minot Public Schools, not kidding. MPS is much larger and has many more opportunities for all kids rather than sending them to small Burlington Public school till 6th grade, then Des Lacs will HS Graduation. All kinds. Join a dating web site. Join a dating group. You can find all kinds of people anywhere- you just have to find them. Basically everyone who was from ND has been pushed out- everyone is new so you don't have to feel like you're doing anything wrong. How else will you meet people??
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
The only unusual noise is the 10 PM bell that rings throughout the entire city to remind kids and minors its time to head home. Other than that- farm equipment and animals.Thank God this little place is right next to thriving and alive Minot. Minot has everything you'll need from food, education, entertainment, work, ect. The only part that is better is the price of housing, and even now there isn't much difference. Only the size and how many people reside in each. The cost of living is much lower in Burlington than Minot, however, its does take an extra amount of nearly 20 miles driving depending on what you do and where you do it. The other town Burlington is close to is Stanley- a bit larger but DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Nothing to find here besides old men, dirty work, and oil riggers. Be careful where you travel- the smaller the town, sometimes the more dangerous it is depending on who lives/works there these days...Horrible. Dont waste your time. Do not waste time and go directly to Trinity Hospital In Minot. The hospital in Burlington is one step up from walk-in clinic. All kinds of points of interest. Be sure to stop by the state park, the scandinavian Heritage Park, and all the other events constantly coming through. Concert Halls, Bars, Blubs, event centers- don't be stuck at home alone. Get out anf have fun!
General comments
This town feels like home. It feel like the family is gathering around the picnic table waiting for granny to bring out the apple pie. Seriously. Burlington is a great hometown place with a lot of goo people and neighbors. A lot of parents bring their families here for a safer place to live, but you still need to be careful of course. Especially the kids! There are a lot of kids in this town so it'd be easy to forget, especially at a young age, but as parents its your job to keep them safe and healthy. Please do not think you don't have anything to worry about just because you live in a smaller town. North Dakota is not the family-friendly safe place it once used to be.
