Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Cedar City, Utah? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Cedar City?
Brad Baker reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Cedar City, Utah has reasonably mild weather during the months of May through October averaging between 70' and 80' with the hottest month being July when it hits almost 90'. The rest of the year the region experiences their fair share of snowfall. Starting in October, and running all the way through May. The average snowfall in October starts at around 2'3" and tops out in January and February at approximately 9' per month average until it falls in May to almost nothing. There are no extremely heavy winds in the area because it sits at the base of the Brianhead Ski Resort area which is approximately 30 minutes from town in the northwest corner of the Dixie National Forest. With an average rainfall amount of only 11", and a snowfall average of 49", it's a nice place to live if you ski.Being a primarily Mormon town, there isn't a whole lot of crime, and their police department consists of three squad cars. Just minor traffic accidents and petty theft make the highlights list for crime in Cedar City, UT. The police officers do get bored sometimes and frequent the on and off ramps near Walmart as you enter town. So make sure you cruise into town at the posted speed limit. Most of Cedar City consists of mid grade housing with very few apartment complexes. Main Street does however have several different motels for the ski season that starts in October and runs through at least April. There are some old mobile home parks on the north side of town that are run down and kind of dumpy looking and run down. There are also some smaller mobile home parks scattered throughout the side streets. There is a city bus that runs the length of town and completes it's run in about a half hour. So if you can help it, try to find a place to stay on the Walmart side of town. The intersection of Main Street and 200North/200West is pretty much the dead center of town. All of the east/west streets run sequencially as do the north/south streets aside from Main Street.Cedar City is a family based and orientated town of primarily Mormon religion following L.D.S. traditions and they are not afraid to post it in their front yards and churches. They are a bunch of hard workers who believe in making their own way. There is work there if you know someone or if you happen to be Mormon. Otherwise only temporary jobs are available to you through agencies. The ethnicity of Cedar City is primarily caucasion with very few exceptions. The only liquor store closes at 5pm daily, and is closed on the weekends. So unless you only drink 3.2 beer, plan ahead. There are few if any pubs or bars to speak of and the state regulates it all.

Main Street has about a 1/2 mile stretch of small shops, a liquor store, some motels. But once you hit the Sizzler, hang a left down 200 North/200 West if you want to hit most of the businesses and fast food, or else you may up in Salt Lake City looking for dinner.Cedar city hosts its fair share of fast food restaurants. They are all there, but there really aren't any real "Supper Houses". Most hotels are connected to the motels and aren't anything spectacular. So stick to the fast food instead of the overpriced mini bar food from their "restells". By the way there is a Sizzler right by the freeway. That's your best bet.The schools in Cedar City were good, and the children I knew in the one apartment complex on Main Street in which I lived actually looked forward to going to school in the morning. They offer both L.D.S schooling, and regular public schooling for children. I never heard any complaints during the time that I lived there about their school system. If you are a Mormon, here you go. Or if you want to be, here is your spot. You'll probably be married and knocked up within a year. There are a lot of local single working men who have probably been on the farm their entire lives thinking about the five wives they could of had... But remember, no booze after 5pm, or on the weekends...
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Cedar City is a pretty quiet town except for during the winter months. With all the skier's passing through, and the local work actually flowing because of that it at times seems busy. Until after 5pm.As I said, Cedar City is very Mormon based, and they are not afraid to show it. When I asked them about the multiple wives thing, they said only in a certain town does their religion allow that practice any more. They live on the border of 2 states, so all they have to do is walk across the border. All of the smaller towns in the area are that way. St. George, which is 20 miles south has the same kind of Mormon feeling and belief system but they aren't as pushy and overbearing as the small towns. But with Bryce Canyon and Brianhead in their backyards, it makes tolerating them almost worth it. I by the way have long hair, and in 6 months with several skills under my belt, only was able to find short term labor related work. There is only one hospital in the area so your choice is slightly limited unless you want to drive the 20 miles to St. George. There are not any emergency dentists open after 5pm.I think the most fun I had when I lived there was going up to Brianhead in the snow with some friends. Otherwise there just isn't that much to do before or after 5pm. There is one thing you can do anytime... Worship with L.D.S. You might just get your own planet. You never can tell.
General comments
Cedar City is a tight knit small comfortable Mormon town, and as long as you fit and look the part, you're good. Otherwise make it only a visit. The town is very hooked on Mormon principles, and they all are working towards their own little planet for themselves, while living at the base of a beautiful ski resort. If you ever get a chance to ski Brianhead, take it.
