Chesapeake shares a temperate 4-seasons climate with other parts of mid-Atlantic. Summers are hot & humid while winters are cool with occasional snowfall. July-August is the warmest time with temperatures soaring to 90 degrees. Spring& Fall are mild and pleasant. | | Let me give me credit where it's due. Chesapeake is the safest city in Virginia. I haven't had a bad experience here nor any of my friends. But I know break-ins, larceny, and theft occur from time to time, nothing major though. | | Greenbrier and Battlefield are great areas as they have suburban environments and safe neighborhoods. If possible try to avoid Green Run, Landstown Bayside, Campostella/Miliary highway, and Salem.
Chesapeake is a predominantly whites city. White folks constitute more than 70% of the population followed by Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians. The majority of residents and homeowners are married couples followed by college grads.
Chesapeake has a mix of modern and old homes. You will find monstrously large houses on the suburban areas and ranch-styles home in the rural areas. Neighborhoods in Great Bridge area have mostly brick ranch style houses and two story brick homes (typical of the 70's). Cedar road and especially the area around Dominion Blvd is great for families and so is Hickory and Great Bridge. Both are family-oriented and boast some of the best schools. While there are new homes coming up, the prices have skyrocketed.

Whites constitute the majority of the population followed by blacks. For the most part, lifestyles revolves around families and neighborhoods are clean and close-knit.You will find a mix of liberals and conservative folks here depending on where you live. Folks here are friendly and somewhat conservative than neighboring Virginia Beach. |

Chesapeake has a vibrant shopping area and Greenbrier Corridor is the major shopping district. Chesapeake Square Mall has over 120 stores while the Crossways Shopping Center has more than 30 stores. Chesapeake has quite a number of military installations so you should expect noise and turbulence from fighter jets and planes. | | Chesapeake and Virginia Beach have large footprints. VB is more of a touristic urban city while Chesapeake blends suburban and rural environments. The cost of living is certainly higher in VB than Chesapeake and Norfolk, its smaller neighbor. Chesapeake and Norfolk are less congested than VB and offer safer and family-oriented neighborhoods than VB. | | Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is a great facility and a moment's drive from almost any part of Chesapeake. | | Great Dismal Swamp and Northwest River Park are cool places especially if you love nature and waterways. Chesapeake is certainly one of the best and dynamic metropolitan cities along the Hampton Roads region. The city has a mix of old and new homes and urban and rural environments. Neighborhoods are well-established and remarkably safer than most other metropolitan cities in America. Chesapeake is highly livable and offers plenty to see and explore from a vibrant art scene, acres of green parks, and fantastic waterways. | | | | | | |
