Clayton is one of my favorite areas to visit and shop because of the calm and peaceful scenery and weather that it brings. The weather in Clatyon floats around 70-to mid 80's during the summer. The summer days bring a less than average humidity than what I've seen in Raleigh and surrounding areas. Maybe it's the location, dew point, etc. but Clayton feels significantly less humid then most places. During the winter you can see Clayton falling in the normal range with other NC cities. Temperatures hit low 20's during some days in January but normally hit the mid to upper 30's-50's on average during the winter. Extreme weather is not common, however a couple of years ago there was tornado activity in the central Piedmont area of NC. This occurs a couple of times every 2 or so years. Snow is common but not in abundance either. Nothing else as serious. | | The main concern I hear about Clayton and from what I see in small suburban towns is that most of the areas have been damaged or vandalized by local kids. Stores with tagging and broken shopping carts are what I see most often around town. I heard of a robbery occurring off Riverside but never obtained the details of what happened specifically. I do know however that Clayton is a safe area and I have not heard of one extreme in violence happening. | | The Riverwood community (Golf Club/Neighborhood) is one of the premiere and most established part of Clayton. Usually the home to established upper-middle class white americans. The houses as well as the club house are viewed in my perspective to be very modern-looking with a hint of complexion of a Victorian viewpoint. They are expensive for sure and it is expensive to live there nonetheless. Worst part of town would be Wyndfall. A lot of people don't see Wyndfall as bad however, people do tend to have problems there with noise complaints. A lot of community college kids rent houses there and party during the weekends. Filled with middle-lower class white and black Americans. Homes are less modern and less complex. Simple setup and resulting in small, cheap, and affordable housing without the distinction of a RiverWood. | | Clayton is an area mixed with a growing and stable young population due to the community college and the proximity to some four-year universities. Although this is the case, their are a lot of retiree's and veterans who live in Clayton. All in all you get a city with a distribution of an even young-to-old ratio and a very educated sector. People who are moving in in their mid to early 30's may have a hard time adjusting to this area with such a large gap. With that being said Clayton would be a great fit for a young college student rooming an a house with some buddies hanging in a small town for a couple years, and great for an old couple looking to settle down and retire. NOT a fit for those who are looking to start a family and settle down. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
Downtown Clayton is home to your typical small town Downtown. Filled with small town pizzera's and small boutiques. GREAT place to visit the art galleries and look for photo's and paintings to put around the house. Concerts are often held during the summer to keep the population active. | | Lucky Chicken is a cheap man's dream and one of the local favorite Mexican joints in Clayton. People love the food, and the service is excellent. The flipside is also a popular choice, and people always flock to get some burgers. | | The schools in Clayton are quality. They are one of the best and the teachers really do care. River Dell is excellent and many people tend to enjoy that school and the feedback the teachers give to the students. Always see a good transition from elementary to middle, middle to high school, etc. | | Very good opportunity for singles, as the abundance of college students are seen when living in Clayton. Great area for young people to meet and start something in the future hopefully. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
There aren't any unusual noise sources in Clayton, scratching out the roads. | | Gardner and Wendell are the two closest and neighboring towns to Clayton. Clayton is definitely a better place to live than Wendell. Many claim Wendell is a broke-man's version of Clayton as it doesn't have as much amenities and people as Clayton. Wendell slightly resembles Cleveland, NC a city not to far from Clayton. Wendell doesn't have premiere shopping centers, and the neighborhoods are more spread out and have the "farm-land" type setting. Gardner is the cream of the crop when compared to Wendell and Clayton. Gardner is more developed and there are more homes and resources in the city. Gardner is known to host a lot of country performances recently after one of the locals Scotty Mcreary was a fan favorite in American Idol. A lot of population and activity has gone there and as a result, has seen Gardner grow into the lavishing city it is. The cost of living there is more efficient as well, as you get a better bang for your buck with having a lot of things around you (Groceries, Home Depot, etc). | | Johnston Medical Center is the closet hospital near Clayton. Its a a hospital with a respected amount of doctors and a great medical team. Individuals usually get transferred to WakeMed in Raleigh, because of more resources and communication opportunities. | | Riverwood's golf club is a great place to get a game of golf in and really bond with family/friends. Visiting downtown is also a cool way to see the history and get a feel for everything that Clayton has to offer. Clayton's community park is one to visit as it stores a volleyball court, tennis court, playground, and many other amenities for you to enjoy on a visit. |
General comments | | | | | | |
You go into Clayton and give a sigh that is most common by North Carolinans driving through most towns in the state. It reminds you just of how much home-type nature it brings and the simplicity a small town can have. Clayton does surprisingly however have a lot of leisure type activities to do. It's a great place to just shoot a round of golf and go out onto the park and go for a run/play some catch. This town feels like your typical small american town, with a little more slow pace. Everyone seems like their either going through college or just enjoying their retirement. Not a place for me because I love excitement and doing cool, and adventurous stuff. STILL a GREAT place though. | | | | | | |
