Jake Dempsey reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in this part of the state is typical of many others along the mid-Atlantic state coasts. The winters in this area tend to be long and cold, with periods of heavy snowfall and severe nor'easters. The summers are very hot and humid, setting off several thunderstorms as well as the occasional tornado. Also, this area has been hit by several hurricanes over the last five years, but fortunately they were not very powerful. There is a fair amount of crime in this area that has been linked to organized street gangs as well as the mafia. There is a lot of illegal gambling, extortion of businesses, as well as drug crimes. However, it is important to note that these crimes are not such a large problem to get the attention of many national enforcement agencies. Along with the drug problem, and usually connected to it, are theft and burglary crimes. The good parts of town are in the south western corner of town, away from the Passaic border. The houses in this area tend to be more geared towards the wealthy individuals, with modern homes that are set on a lot of land. The people in this part of town tend to be white or Italian, and are upper class. The bad part of town is over by Passaic, and though the houses are nice for a middle class suburban area, it is not difficult to find a crime in progress. The people in this part of town are racially diverse. For the most part the people that are in this town tend to be wealthy and educated. Most of them are married and also educated by a decent college, and work white collar jobs. The people in the town tend to be a little bit elitist, and do not trust those who come into the town and have a bad job or do not show some sort of initiative to get into the upper echelons of life in Clifton. For some of the older families, there is a little bit of a racial tinge as well, as some families are still upset at the influx of minorities.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown shopping area is absolutely incredible, with both old shops as well as new retailing areas that ensure that you never need to go to another town to shop unless you want to take a trip. The best restaurants are called Marios and then Alexxus Steakhouse, where they have a famous burger entree. The public schools in Clifton are above average, but could do more in the way of hiring better teachers for the students. There are several nice parks and libraries to meet singles, but very few clubs that are reputable.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is a lot of traffic as it passes over the highway towards New York City. One of the neighboring towns is called Passaic. It is on the border of the Hudson River as well as Manhattan, and as a result it has become a hub of organized and disorganized crime. There is a high cost of living both in terms of money and safety, so it is a much better bet to live in Clifton. Another neighboring town is called Little Falls which is very close to Montclair University. It is a charming town with wonderful people but a high cost of living. There is a great deal to do in terms of shopping and site seeing this town, so it is preferable to Clifton. The local hospital is called St. Marys and they have wonderful care and even have a specialized pediatrics area. The nicest places are the parks, nature preserves, and the country clubs for their lunch specials.
General comments
The town feels like it is made of money on the nice side and feels like a condensed New York City towards Passaic. The nice side of town has several golf and country clubs and also has some of the most beautiful parks that the state has to offer. In the downtown area of Clifton you will find some shops that have been run by the same family for generations, as well as some of the newest retailer stores around. Overall, it is a very pleasant place to live.
