Constance Phillips reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in College park is all around pretty good. You will experience every season here. When I lived there,we had a few warmer winters, but we are in GA so that is to be expected. In terms of extreme weather, there can certainly be heavy rain. the home I was in flooded in the basement, so if you are buying a house, make sure you have good drainage. besides that, its a great place to live in terms of weather. The crime in college park can be an issue for someone that is not familiar or is just moving into this area.Honestly, there is alot of home invasions where they will rob you blind. In some parts of college park you do have some gun crime and some rough characters as well. despite all of this,It is still a fairly safe area once you get to know your surroundings. The best part of college park to me is probably is the area by the airport (where I used to live). I could walk to the airport if I wanted to I was so close. I lived on Arundel rd. right by Jamestown park. Its really a good older residential area.If you have young children this is where you might want to look for a house. The worst part of town is on old national pky. Thats where alot of crime (especially at night)goes on. During the day is fine, they even have a new plaza that was built about 2011, so the area is being built up well. The majority of people that live in College Park are Black with a strong Hispanic presence. Someone that is lower/middle class will fit in well here. Someone that is blue collar and married with kids should do well here.I wouldn't move to this city if I were single. You might want to check out midtown if you are single. My neighbors were some of the best people I have lived next to. We all got along and visited each other almost daily. The people in College park Are generally nice and are easy to live with.

The shopping areas are nice. the one called Camp Creek market Place is good as well. The best restaurant is a hard one. You have some chain restaurants here, but if you want fine dining you would have to go to Atlanta.the public schools are pretty good. My parents work at two of them; Paul D West Middle School and Stonewall Tell elementary. They are better than some of the surrounding schools. good teachers, great facilitates (P D W re-built in 2004/5).
the administrators can use some fine tuning in terms of keeping up with the times and what the parents and students need and want, but the Parents are generally very active which brings the level of quality up.
This town really isn't for singles; especially younger singles. Its great for families though.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Living here you will hear the Planes over your house EVERY 5 minutes because the airport is so close. The cargo train can be heard at midnight every night as well.Between College Park and East Point the choice is easy. It would be College Park. East point has some good points (shopping food etc.) but in terms of crime, East Point takes the cake. Also, there are not too many nice houses there anymore let alone safe places. Now College Park verses Atlanta is no comparison. Of course Atlanta has some good and bad points as well, but its light years better if you live in the right area of town. the food the activities to do and see is light-years better than College Park.South Fulton Medical Center.. DO NIT GO THERE. Go to the ones in the city. (Grady etc.)The service at South Fulton is horrible. The Parks are nice for kids, The airport is really cool to go into, and the Mall is nice when you want to go somewhere low -key.
General comments
My overall impression of college park is that it was a great place to live. Coming from New York City in a cramped apartment to a 4bedroom/3 bathroom house
with a back yard was a great change, even though the house was a little older.
would I recommend someone living there? Maybe for a starter house but not for a long term stay. If you are looking to live in Atlanta for a bargain, this would be your area to check out.Its only 10 min. to Atlanta where everything a person could be looking for (except the cost of living ) is.
