Life in College Station, Texas

College Station Reviews Texas Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to College Station, Texas? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in College Station?
Travis reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather can become very erratic. One day it can be warm and beautiful and the next day it can be freezing. Usually in the summer, temperatures can reach 110 degrees Fahrenheit and sometimes we must be careful in case of tornadoes.

During the winter, rather than there being constant days of snow, we must watch for freezing streets. Actually, in most cases, if there is even a little bit snow flurries school are canceled and streets are closed.
The crimes that have occurred are very minimal in this small town. When there are crimes is varies from breaking and entering, small robberies, if any, loitering. nothing drastic.

There really isn't the huge crime that one would think of when they think of a city. No real deaths, or murders. At least not from what I've heard.
Honestly, the worst part of this area was "technically" a whole other city that sat literally, the next block away, right next to College Station: "Bryan". The city that is the worst part of town, has lower class individuals living there. African Americans and Hispanics who are lower class seem to live in Bryan. Their homes are not really kept up to a "code", are old and the streets are filled with litter.

In the city of College Station itself though, nothing is really bad. All the people are friendly and kind to each other!
This place is perfect for families, college students, couples, older couples, young children, hippies, and people of all races. A high class bachelor would not be good there because it is not a "busy" as they may like. It is a place that hosts football games and barbecues. Every one is nice, educated and sensible. But if someone is trying to make lots of money in an amazing business, I don't think that it would be a good idea.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
It's not grand. There is a Hobby Lobby, some clothes stores, 1 or 2 movie theaters, and grocery stores. That's about all you'll get outside of restaurants!Amazing restaurants are going to be chain restaurants such as Red Lobster, Chedders, and so on. There are McDonald's and Wendy's and Jack in The Box. There are also mom and pop diners and restaurants like Spanish restaurants and Italian restaurants and regular hamburger restaurants. The Public schools are good because it is a small town that they are able to teach more with a smaller class.Their are opportunities for college students who are singles but not for singles who are 30 or 40. Couples who live here have already dated and decided to come here for the slow pace.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Nope! When you walk around at night you can hear the crickets and animals. When you walk around the neighborhood you can just hear the cars community generators in that complex.College Station is NOTHING like Dallas or NYC. Although NYC and Dallas are somewhat different, they are both busy and have a population of many people. There are museums and places that are open late or even all night! You could go to raves and concerts in Dallas or NYC. A concert at College Station would be like a concert that is produced by students. I think what college station does have though is the AGGIES football games. Everything closes early in College Station so if you didn't get something that day you have to get it the next day. But it is so peaceful that any one can walk around at night and just look at the stars are walk around the huge campus. Oh and did I mention the College Station City buses are free! There is actually several local hospitals. Some are St. Joseph or Scott and White's. They're both very good hospitals that will take care of their patients, but some people prefer one over the other. I have no preference, personally. The country is definitely the best place. But other than that I really can't think of anything amazing! You always have to travel far to go to attractions.
General comments
This town honestly feels like a place that you would go to relax and just take time for yourself from the crazy busy world. It's not a vacation spot to go swim in the beach and go party, but just relax in the country.

It has a nice smell of fresh air because it's out in the country, and the sights to see are absolutely beautiful. The fireflies during the summer and the barbecues. It can just be a dream come true for someone who loves the outdoors.
