Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Cotati, California? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Cotati?
Kathryn reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | The weather in Cotati is perfect! It's generally mid eighties in the summer time, with occasional light breezes from the ocean just over the hills. Spring is mild, low to mid seventies. Winters can bring frequent rain showers, and cold mornings, with temperatures dipping down below freezing. Fall is spectacular! The weather beings to chill off, but it's still warm enough in the days to enjoy the beautiful changing leaves. | | Cotati is an extremely safe town. Serious crime is virtually non-existent. However, it does border Rohnert Park, which is a college town, so it's not uncommon to read about DUIs, drunk in public, the occasional bike theft, and drug related crime. Though by drug I mean low scale marijuana offenses. You can feel safe leaving your front door unlocked while you drive to the store, or your windows open to allow the cool night breeze in. | | Cotati is a fairly rural town, though there are also many newer subdivisions with large and fanciful homes. The outskirts of town, bordered by Gravenstein Highway and the Petaluma city limit are beautiful, especially if you love rambling green hills, dairy farms, and trees. Downtown Cotati has newer, very nice homes, though they don't offer much in the way of backyards. Once you cross over Southwest Blvd., closer to Rohnert Park, you start to see a shift. The tract homes, often referenced by the letter of the street names in the area, begin to look less kept up. After the mortgage bust, many fell into foreclosure, and are now rentals. | | Cotati is a small town that still maintains much of its country feel. People who love fresh air, hikes, the natural things, will love Cotati. Those city slickers who are worried about a little dirt underneath their fingernails, or who concern themselves with having the flashiest car will most definitely find Cotati less than appealing.
The people in Cotati are charming and humble. They live here because they truly love it, and hope that you will appreciate and respect it as well. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | Downtown Cotati is very nice. It's small, and clustered with mom and pop shops. You feel comfortable and safe. The buildings are older, but still kept up very nicely. And it's clean. I highly recommend visiting downtown Cotati and enjoying all it has to offer! | | Forget restaurants in Cotati, and head to Oliver's Market! Their deli and prepared foods sections are amazing! Whether you want a delicious and fresh burrito you don't have to feel too bad about eating, or a chicken wrap, you won't leave disappointed. You also won't break the bank.
Be sure to stop by the Quicksilver deli as well. Their smoked salmon sandwich is my absolute favorite. On a roll with red onions and mustard! You can't go wrong, though it is a little bit more expensive than the Safeway deli, it's worth it! | | Schools in Cotati are average. Some are ranked very high, 9-10. Many that score high are located closer to Petaluma, while others are lower on the scale, 5s and 6. These are clustered closer to the Rohnert Park border. The class sizes are al relatively small, perhaps given that it is still a small town. | | Cotati is not the place to be if you are single. While there are a few bars in downtown, there's not much in the way of excitement. Head next door to Rohnert Park to pick up on the single college co-eds, or into Santa Rosa for a bit more vibrant nightlife. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | Cotati is a quiet small town, that's a major part of the allure. The freeway runs through town, but for the most part, you won't hear that, unless you're on it. And even then, it's not crazy loud. | | Rohnert Park and Petaluma border Cotati, and while both are great in their own ways, Cotati still rules. Rohnert Park is home to Sonoma State University. The students come in and out, so the city loses the more stable families. Many of those who do live there year round live in the tract homes or apartments, and it just doesn't have that same good feel.
Petaluma is beautiful. a true farm town, whose downtown is still quaint. However, many of the farms and ranches here just look rundown. | | Most of the hospitals in Cotati are veterinary hospitals, though there is a Kaiser on either side in Sana Rosa and Petaluma. Both are highly rated. There's also a smaller hospital in Sebastopol, down the road. Palm Drive Hospital. This hospital is not recommended. It's technology is lacking, as is the staff's personality. | | Downtown Cotati is a great place to visit, and the several parks and green spaces around town are also beautiful. But while you're in Sonoma County, be sure to check out some of it's local wineries. Sebastopol is known for local mom and pop vinters and the Korbel Champagne estates are down Redwood Highway.
On that note, also be sure to take the drive through the redwoods into Guernville. It's an amazing drive. | General comments | | | | | | | Cotati feels like a small country town. It's still got farms and friendly faces. It feels like a hometown, the home town you can always come back to, even if it's not where you were born. It feels clean and wholesome, safe, and family oriented.
But please don't confuse this as some country bumpkin town. People here are educated and intelligent. The university in Rohnert Park attracts great minds. | | | | | | |
