Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Decatur, Illinois? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Decatur?
Stephanie Pedersen reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | Being in the Mid-West, Decatur Illinois is not a stranger to summer time tornadoes, or Extreme hot weather. The rain pour per year is low, but when it does storm, there is a chance for flooding. Summers are super hot, winters, super cold, and the other seasons, tolerant. | | Decatur is located south of Chicago. A small town but not tolerant to the crime that lies in Chicago. Everyone here is outdoors style and family oriented, but it is not uncommon to see bullet proof glass on the windows in the stores. Theft is high, methanphetamine usage high, and violent crime higher then other small towns. | | Decatur is not that big. There are good parts and bad, and you can tell them just by driving threw them. If you see people outside homes that look like gang bangers, that is simply not a good neighborhood. | | People are super friendly unless you go in the gang banger areas, then they stair at you wondering what your doing there. These places should be avoided, as they like it that way. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | Downtown Decatur is cute, with a sort of victorian feel to it. All the shops are locally owned, people are friendly, food is wonderful, and its all walkable. | | Krekel's Custard located at 801 E Wood St, Decatur, IL 62521 is one of the best and most famous joints to eat at in Decatur. Id say Taproot Restaurant located at 170 N. Merchant Street, Decatur, IL 62523 is next to the best because it is a little fancy and they serve a little of everything. | | The public schools are wonderful and teachers are not given enough credit for all the hard work they do. Kids are for the most part respectful and a lot of people know each other which helps in a lot of areas, not just your students that attend public schools. | | Yes, there are opportunities for singles, but more opportunities for players as most singles between the ages of 16-38 like to have multiple partners and refuse commitment. They lead sheltered lives so the more they can have on their plate.. the better they think. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | Located next to Decatur Lake, the noise level is low. Occasional parties and or events occur but with notice to the general public. | | Decatur is the smallest to close cities, like Champaine, and Peoria, being bigger cities, the crime rates increse, and over all feel of conectedness, decresed, Decatur is a wonderful little town located next to Decatur Lake. | | Decatur Memorial Hospital is the general medical and surgical hospital in Decatur, IL Located at 2300 N. Edward Street, Decatur, Illinois 62526, 217-876-8121 | | My favorite places to visit in Decatur Illinois are, Scovill Zoo, Children's Museum of Illinois, The Kirkland Fine Arts Center, and the James Milliken Homestead. | General comments | | | | | | | Decatur is an awesome place if you love the outdoors and stay away from the bad areas. Lots of fishing, family atmosphere, outdoor adventures, and exciting weather. | | | | | | |
