I stayed there for multiple weeks and never have I felt so unsafe in an area in my recent time in the State of North Carolina. Crime is high here and there needs to be something done about it. | | Forrest Hills is by far the best place to live in Durham. The houses are large and Victorian styled. You will pay over half a million dollars for most of these homes and the demographics are predominately white. The people who live in the Forrest Hill area are professors of the University or Research specialists. Hillandale is also a popular destination as well. Downtown is populated, however is usually deemed to be unsafe and not the best place to hang around. Shopping is decent with southpoint mall (houses a lot of cool independent brands). During the day downtown is one of the best. | | The Palace International is a great african bistro and cuisine that can grab the hearts of any individual who comes through. It is truly a local favorite. Elmo's Diner is also a great place to catch breakfast on the go. | | The schools are not as good as they should be. Private schools outweigh the public schools here. | | With Duke and Chapel Hill just around the corner you can't really miss out here. The opportunity to meet young and hip people are high. |
Noise | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | | General comments |
There is Raleigh-Durham National Airport and that does have a lot of airplane activity. The interstate runs through Durham as well which causes a lot of noise. | | Duke Medical Hospital is a great hospital. Houses great doctors and a cancer research staff that beats them all. | | Visiting Duke University is almost like touring Hogwarts. The buildings are fancy and really artsy and can be a wonderful day trip to look at. Cameron Indoor is also a great basketball arena, and a great place to catch games during basketball season. The performing arts center is also a fan favorite and the shows there are spectacular. | | Durham is an excellent location and town in the fact that it is a place to get one of the best college educations in the world. However I do feel very unsafe in this area anywhere outside of the Hospital or University area. This town is definitely a place of where you use your opportunity. If you want to succeed go to Duke and live near the area of the University. I get it is a big city, however It can do a lot better for what they are at right now. |
