Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
The weather in Elizabeth is just about average for this part of the state. The summers tend to be very hot and produce long lasting heatwaves as well as severe thunderstorms that can produce hail. There are some weak hurricanes that impact along the coast here as well as an infrequent tornado in the area. The winters are long and cold and tend to result in several feet of snow throughout the season. Lately they have become inordinately cold, with several weeks below the freezing point and even below zero. | | There is a moderate amount of crime in this area that is mainly focused upon theft of appliances and electronics. This mainly happens at the train station that is in town, where young people will steal other's electronics for their own personal benefit or to sell There are assaults as a result of this as well. There is also the problem of drug dealing and drug consumption in the town which has reached epidemic proportions as of late, but our police force was bolstered to reduce crime to acceptable levels. | | The worst parts of town are on the east side towards the industrial area as well as by the train stations. There are mostly apartments in this area that are cramped and poorly cared for by the management. The majority of people that live in this particular area are black as are, sadly, most of the convicted criminals. The abandoned industrial area allows for a great deal of drug trade to take place in the town as well as other illegal actions. The good part of the town is southwest of Trumbull and Walnut Streets. These areas are most patrolled by police even though they still have a certain roughness to them. It is racially diverse, but is still comprised mostly of poor individuals. | | The people in this town for the most part racially and ethnically diverse with a high concentration of young people. They tend to be moderately educated, most through high school, and tend to value their own privacy and safety. While there are criminal elements in the town, they are not popular and are generally shunned by the community. Any person that tends to be critical of the town or has a large degree of wealthy, like those who flash five hundred dollar phones on the train, will typically not fit in here and may find themselves the victim of a crime. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
The downtown shopping area has a lot of culturally diverse shops, but the majority of people go to New York for shopping. There are some major retailers in the area as well. | | The best restaurants are Zappa-Fannuci's which is famous all around these parts for their Italian cuisine. The Tropicana Diner is another great option for eating. | | The public schools are well-funded and typically produce several noteworthy graduates every single spring. | | There are a lot of bars, clubs, and places to meet other singles. Also, New York City is right across the river. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
Between the traffic and both of the airports in Newark and New York, there is quite a bit of noise in the area. Also, there is the train. | | One of the neighboring towns is New York City. It is one of the wealthiest, most famous cities in all of the world, and is home to several political and historical pieces of American heritage. It has the best shopping and a high cost of living, making it the most desirable place to live for someone in Elizabeth. Another neighboring town is called Newark. While they are mainly a political hub for New Jersey as well as an Airport, they are also plagued by crime. In terms of better living, Elizabeth is a better place to live than Newark. | | St. Josephs is the best local hospital with access to immediate care, but they are not good for trauma. | | The nicest places to visit are the Hudson River and the Cliffside Park. |
General comments | | | | | | |
A lot of the town feels very nice and clean, with an air of history and cosmopolitan life. We are situated very close to the Hudson River and New York city, and have a rich history that combines our city with that of New York. However, that only describes how the city feels to people who come here to visit. Those who live here must deal with the poor transit system, homeless people, and poor housing. Aside from that, we must contest with daily crime. | | | | | | |
