Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
In Elizabethtown, or E-Town, as most residents call it, summers are warm and winters are fairly cold, but not harsh. There are usually a few days of snow each year. | | I don't hear about much crime in Elizabethtown, there's probably more in neighboring Radcliff, but I do remember a woman being abducted from a gas station and killed several years ago. | | Elizabethtown is a pretty even mix of good and bad neighborhoods. Lots of people who are stationed at Ft. Knox choose to live here because there is more in the way of dining and shopping. There are lots of good subdivisions but on the farther end of downtown, going toward the interstate, there are a lot of weekly hotels and less safe neighborhoods. | | The people are generally friendly but they tend to view themselves as more "city" and the outlying areas in the county as more "country." Most people are really proud of the city and all the businesses it has attracted. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
The downtown is a very cute area but there's little open. There's a local history museum, a men's clothing store, the courthouse and a few small restaurants. There is lots of shopping on the the north end of town on Dixie Highway. | | One of the best sit-down restaurants is Green Bamboo, a great Chinese place. There's also a total dive downtown called Old Vault Deli that is only open during lunch hours but has fantastic food. | | The schools are actually operated by the city rather than the county, but overall they are probably not quite as good, or only just as good as the county schools. | | There are few opportunities for singles. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
There are not many unusual noises unless you are staying at the hotels near the freeway. | | It's much larger than the surrounding towns. Lots of shopping and dining options. There's a fairly large community college with lots of different programs, interstate access and a wide variety of hotels. | | The only hospital in town is Hardin Memorial but I would recommend being transported to Louisville for anything serious. | | The nicest places to visit are probably the downtown area (one building has a cannon ball hole from the Civil War) and Freeman Lake park, a big lake which has a great light display at Christmas. |
General comments | | | | | | |
The town feels like any small, suburban area. It has a mall and all the standard big box stores and restaurants---Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Old Navy, O'Charley's, Red Lobster, etc. It's kind of been overtaken by this style of retailer and has lost a lot of its charm. | | | | | | |
