Cory reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in Flint, MI varies by the season. The winter months are cold and may seem to drag on almost through the spring season some years. The temperatures in winter range from 20-30 degrees. It is very likely to see some days below zero if you factor in the windchill. Flint also receives a good amount of snow during the winter months. Most of the snowfall is in January and February. The summer months are nice and warm in this town. The temperatures during summer range from 65-80 degrees. It is normally the hottest in late July with temperatures possible getting past 90 degrees.Flint, MI has many crimes that occur. Flint actually has one of the highest crime rates in Michigan. The most common crime in this town is burglaries. Another crime that happens daily is assaults. You will hear of auto theft quite a bit as well. There has been quite a few murders reported in this town. Flint also has crimes such as drinking and driving and driving with out a license that occur weekly. Overall Flint has a lot of crime. There are a variety of homes available for sale in Flint. If you are on a tight budget you can get homes very cheap in this town. Keep in mind there is a lot of crime that occurs in some parts of Flint though. I would certainly stay away from the Lippincott Boulevard area as to this is where a lot of the crime occurs. It is possible that you can run into nice residents in this area though. You can get houses very cheap in this neighborhood though. Some of the homes in the area go for as low as $15,000. The homes in this part of town are older homes as well. If you are looking for a nice area of Flint i would recommend the Cayuga Trail area. The homes in this part of town are new construction homes and go for anywhere from $125,000 up to $250,000. Keep in mind these are brand new homes with a lot of square footage so you are getting a huge house for your money.Flint is made up of mostly of middle and lower class residents. The most common race you will see in Flint is blacks. You will also see quite a few whites as well but not nearly as many as the blacks. There are some Hispanics that live in the town to. There are a lot of gangs in some parts of Flint. Although there are some areas of the town that are nice i would not recommend living in Flint. If you were to live here you would fit in best if you were black or white. I would suggest possible living outside of Flint if you need to be in the area.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown area is great. The area has many historical buildings as well. They have some nice small shopping stores as well as some nice coffee shops.I would suggest that you try Ruggero's Restaurant located in Flint. They have great Italian food. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is friendly. The local Olive Garden is also a great place to eat.Flint has many schools to choose from. The quality of the schools are pretty high. They have great programs if your child may need more one on one time. The sports program is a little better than average. There are many single people in Flint. This makes for great opportunities to meet another single person. Flint also offers many meeting places such as bars, pubs, and night clubs.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There are a lot of planes that fly in and out of the Flint Bishop International Airport. This happens during the day and at night which can make for a hassle. It is a noise that is a little unbearable but you could probably get used to it.Flint, MI does have a lot to offer as far as shopping. The cost of living in Flint is also very low which makes it a great place if you are on a tight budget. I do like the historical feel of downtown Flint. I would compare it to Burton, MI. The travel time from one another is less than ten minutes. Burton is a much smaller town with a lot less crime. Burton has everything you would need for everyday living. It is also much nicer for the fact that everything seems fairly quite at night time. I would choose To live in Burton over Flint because i like less people around and it just seems to have much less commotion. I would recommend as a family that you live in Burton because of the crime level difference.Flint has a few hospitals such as the McLaren Health Care and Mott Children's Health Center. These hospitals are all very good and provide excellent care. The Whaley Historical House is a pretty neat place to visit. This is an art museum. This is a good place for anyone. They have a lot of nice things insides this museum. They also offer a lot of information on the history of Flint.
General comments
Most of Flint is a bit rowdy to me. There are a select few neighborhoods that the residents seem to be nice and willing to help out their neighbors. I would recommend that you really get to know the town before you just decide to move in somewhere. I do like the fact that you can get big houses really cheap which can make for some great rental properties. The downtown area is fairly neat and they keep up on the landscaping which can make for a welcoming feel.
