Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
The weather is cold in the winter with ranges from -10 to 40f with January being the coldest month.
The summers are sticky, hot, humid and uncomfortable ranging 60-100f with July generally being the hottest month.
Fall is usually pleasantly cool around 40-60f.
Spring brings a heavy allergy season ranging 30-70f.
Extreme weather events are rare in Florence. The heaviest rain tends to be in April, and there aren't any mudslides or floods to worry much about. Snow happens toward the end of December and lasts through February with a few major snowstorms sprinkled in. January is the snowiest month. Threats of tornadoes are rare here, with an occasional reporting of a funnel sighting in the sky. Hurricanes do not occur in this area as it is not near enough to a coast line. | | Crime is low in Florence, but neighboring areas may experience some. People tend to be friendly here, and you don't hear much about crime. If anything happens it's usually someone acting out because they were drunk or got caught driving drunk. The biggest crime I've ever head about happened in 1994 when a 17 year old student named Clay Shrout murdered his parents and two sisters before going to school and holding his class hostage at gunpoint. | | Florence has a lot of new and old subdivisions mixed together so you find a little bit of everything sprinkled in. One moment you might be on the outskirts near Union in a really nice neighborhood with homes in the $600,000 range and drive up Mt. Zion Rd. you'll hit a few random streets of houses and condos, then up to a part of Dixie Highway with trailer parks and you'll find a bad area. The trailer parks are old, some of them built up in the 1970's so you can imagine the state they're in. | | Blue collar workers can do well here as there are a lot of factories to work for. If you're someone interested in cultural diversity, you won't find it here. I can't imagine hippies doing well or vegans or hardcore democrats. The area will accept you, but you'll find some strong opinions against you. Forward thinkers should move elsewhere for a better time. White people and people of color all live here, but mostly it's white. Republicans would do well here. The educated may want to move someplace better as there aren't a lot of great jobs in Florence. Atheists run for the hills as you'll find a church at every turn.

Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
There are a couple downtown shopping areas. Mall Rd. is well-maintained, but Houston could use some work. The worst part about all of these is that there aren't many sidewalks to use and it's not a good location for people to ride bikes in. | | Best restaurants can be found on Houston Rd. | | This area for schools is a little odd because you may live in Florence and go to a school in Union or Hebron. All of the schools are fairly decent. The ones closer to Union are newer and rated better with less drug use and violence. | | Not unless you enjoy looking for dates at a bar. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
Depending which streets you live on, you're likely to hear some traffic from a nearby highway. You'll probably hear a plane once a day since the airport is 10 minutes away. | | Comparing this town to Union, Ky: Union is a rural area where you have to drive longer to get to anything. If you like to have space between yourself and your neighbor then Union might be better for you. Union has virtually no crime rates as everything is spread out for miles. It's beautiful there and the schools are decent.
Comparing this town to Hebron, Ky: Hebron is also more spread out, but it's a growing community. There is definitely more wealth there as far as the housing options and people that live there. The Cincinnati airport is actually located in Hebron and not in Cincinnati so it's good if you need to fly often. You can find work in Hebron at factories or small local shops. More businesses are coming into the area so I imagine it'll be built up soon enough. The crime rate is low.
If you don't have much money and like the convenience of getting to locations quick, go to Florence. If you need to travel often, live in Hebron and still be able to drive to stores in under 10 minutes. If you love a rural vibe with peace and quite, move to Union. The crime rate is low and you'll still be able to drive to shops in 15-30 minutes. | | St. Elizabeth owns all of the hospitals in the area. St. Elizabeth is rated high, and they're located in nice areas so you'll be okay if you have to go there. | | Plenty of parks to visit in nearby towns. Big Bone Lick is a beautiful state park, but you'll have to excuse the funny name. Boone Woods is also nice, especially for children as there's a big old wooden fort that kids love. |
General comments | | | | | | |
The town is generally a cookie cutter shape of what most of America has become. The same shops and chain restaurants you'll find 500 miles away will probably be found here. Racism isn't dead here. People are flag waving, gun carrying, backward thinking individuals. Most people keep to themselves, but will lend you a hand if you need it. You don't have to be afraid to walk down the street. For the most part it's safe. It's not the prettiest part of Kentucky and feels kind of drab and blah. I'd move out of here if I could.
