Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Fontana, California? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Fontana?
KATHY EDISS reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Fontana is susceptible to very high winds during the fall and spring months, winds up to 100 mile per hour. Rain is minimal. Temps in the winter range from 34 - 60 degrees and summers range from 60 - over 100 degrees.Crime in Fontana is primarily burglary, robbery and DUI. The newer homes were prime targets for home burglary as were the new shops. The police department has a great program now that involves the community to help fight crime. The newer neighborhoods, built in the last 10 years, have been built on the outer parts of Fontana and are primarily occupied by young families, first time homeowners, 50/50 Caucasian and African American. The older homes are in the center of Fontana and are surrounded by industry. These homes are not as well kept and are occupied by low income families, primarily African American and Hispanics. The people are friendly when you are shopping but once in the neighborhood, they seem to be keep more to themselves. This may be because of the areas they came from which were not the nicest. 46% of the residents are Caucasian and 9% Black with the rest a mix of Hispanic, Asian and others.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
There are several new malls in Fontana on the outskirts of town. The original downtown area is more industrial and not very nice for shopping. The newer malls have all the convenient stores -Lowes, Starbucks, Home Depot. Some of the best restaurants in town are Doma Timos Mexican food, a hidden gem frequented by locals. And El Chilitos Mexican which has some of the best food in town at great prices. The public schools have a great after-school program for grades K-8. It offers games, tutoring, sports and some have a breakfast program for low income students.Fontana is more of a family or single parent type of town. It does not offer very many activities to meet other singles.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Fontana is bordered by two major freeways and a major airport. So the noise pollution by cars and planes can be substantial. There is also a major raceway so when a race is on, it can be heard many miles away.Fontana is next door to Rialto which is very similar except Rialto does not have the newer malls and shops. It's ethnic mix is similar as is the industry. The housing is not as new as Fontana. The best hospital is Kaiser - it specializes in, besides regular medical care, cardiac, cancer and stroke care.Fontana is close to mountains, 30 minutes away, for skiing or hiking. The raceway is a fun place to visit when the race is in town.
General comments
The newer parts of Fontana, new housing and shopping, are a nicer place to be. The older part is more industrial and un-kept homes and the feeling of not being safe.
