The weather in Forest Park is similar to that of Chicago. The winters hover around the low 30's and the summers are upper 70's to low 80's. Snowfall is average for the region with generally no more than around 30 inches for the season. Forest Park doesn't have a downtown shopping district. It's proximity to Oak Park's extensive shopping district ensures most people shop there. It has 3 neighborhood business districts and is the home to over 600 successful businesses. | | Potillo's for beef sandwiches, the Golden Steer for steaks and Gaetano's & Ristorantino Mediterraneo for real Italian cuisine. | | The public schools are well rated and it is part of the Proviso Township, so the high school so students can attend Proviso East, Proviso West or the Proviso Math and Science Academy, depending on where they live in the neighborhood. Both Proviso East and West have excellent athletic programs. | | There is night life in Forest Park, though not clubs. The 290 expressway runs through the northern third of Forest Park but the area bordering it is mostly commercial. | | It is similar to Elmwood Park which is about 8 miles to the north. They have the same neighborly attitudes with thet major difference being that there are more bars in Forest Park than there are in Elmwood Park. Forest Park is family oriented but also has some night life. It is more racially diverse than Elmwood Park. | | Loyola Medical Center is the premier hospital in the area, but MacNeal and West Suburban are the closest. Forest Park is also close to Hines Veteran's Hospital. | | Forest Park has a lot of parks and a visit to the Aquatic Park, which boasts two large water slides, a volleyball court and a child safety water sport area, is worth a visit. It also has many festivals and family events throughout the year. |
