Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Fort Collins, Colorado? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Fort Collins?
Brooke Rice reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | Fort Collins is an absolutely beautiful town, with great weather. There is snow in the Winter, sun in the Summer, and rain in both Fall and Spring. There is very little wind, and all four seasons are mild, but present. There are not many natural disasters in Fort Collins, but when there are any, they are fire and flood. | | The only crime I ever experienced first hand in Fort Collins was gas theft. Gas was taken from my car while it was in the parking lot of my rented townhome. Considering the size of Fort Collins, there is very little crime altogether. | | The worst part of town is the North College area, above Old Town. The North part of town is not only less appealing visually, it also has higher crime rates. It is only really the bad part of town, though, because the greater part of Fort Collins is extremely nice. The town has approximately an $800,000/year budget for community events and practices sustainability in as many ways as possible. A diverse population lives in Fort Collins. There are a wide range of homes in Fort Collins, but the city, as a whole is very nice, and also very aesthetically pleasing. | | People in Fort Collins are extremely friendly. It is an upbeat place to live and visit! I can't think of a single person that would not fit in. There is a wide range of residents' ages, education, etc. The town is diverse and accepting. Colorado State University is in Fort Collins, so there is a large population of college students, and the fact that the college is there also ensures constant diversity in the town. It is a great place! | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | The downtown shopping area in Fort Collins is commonly known as "Old Town". It is a great place to shop! There are also many phenomenal restaurants in the area. I especially like going to Old Town in the winter, when a portion of the downtown area is converted into a beautiful ice skating area! Old Town is located North of CSU on College Ave. | | It is hard to say which are the best restaurants in Fort Collins, since there are a number of five star rated restaurants, and in total there are so many restaurants that I couldn't have possibly been to all of them, even after three years of residence in the town! My personal favorite is 'Texas Roadhouse', but there are too many to just choose one. | | There are many public schools to choose from in Fort Collins. Some are better and some are worse, but there are definitely some great educational opportunities in town. | | There are ample opportunities for singles in Fort Collins. There are many community events, bars, concert venues, and restaurants in town. There are also a few colleges! | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | Besides the noise of traffic there are no unusual noise sources in town. | | Fort Collins is the nicest large city in Colorado, in my opinion. It is cleaner and greener than any city around. Greeley is a neighboring city, about half an hour from Fort Collins, and it is known for the 'feed lot' smell that circulates in the city. Denver is close too, about an hour or so to the South of Fort Collins. It is the state's capital, but has a huge amount of traffic and crime, compared to Fort Collins. | | Medical care in Fort Collins is bountiful. I never went to just one place for medical care, but rather went to the 'Women's Clinic' for some care, and I also chose to see specialists in other areas of medical care. I have never heard a bad review of any medical practices in Fort Collins, and I would very highly recommend the 'Women's Clinic' to anyone who could use their services. They are phenomenal. | | There are countless places to visit in Fort Collins. Horsetooth Resevoir is an incredible destination, located to the West of Fort Collins. The dam that holds the resevoir can be seen from almost any East/West facing street in the city. If you wish to swim, hike, boat, or camp, Horsetooth is the place to go. I would also recommend visiting some of the town's theme bars. My favorite is "The Drunken Monkey", which has swings inside the bar. The gardens at Colorado State University are impressive, and many travellers like to see the Budweiser Events Center and Brewery, where tours can be set up. There are also many events in town, so I would definitely recommend looking at the city's Events Calender before planning a trip! | General comments | | | | | | | Even though Fort Collins is a large city, the trees and the way that people are treated there give the city a small-town feeling. The town feels open, and extremely clean, especially for a large city. The first time I ever went to Fort Collins, I felt like a weight had been lifted! It was like the smog of Denver and the smell of Greeley were instantly gone. I loved Fort Collins from the moment I first saw it! | | | | | | |
