Two extremes. Summer is amazingly hot and humid. Winters are bitter cold with much snowfall. The season changes are very drastic and typical. Fall is beautiful. All of the leaves turn golden brown and red and it is just starting to get chilly.Fort Wayne has a fairly low crime rate. I have not experience anything crime related personally.Overall the city is a good and safe place to live. There are parts of downtown, the south side of the city, that can get a little rough though.Very friendly town. It is a very neighborly city where there is a broad community that interacts and gets along. It is also a very high school based town and a lot of connections are made in high school and remain that way for many years.
town comparison vs.General comments
Fort Wayne is the second largest city in Indiana. The population reaches about 250,000. It is a large city to many of the small farm towns surrounding it. Indianapolis, the capital of IN, is a two hour drive from Fort Wayne and the down town feel is fairly similar.Fort Wayne feels like home to me and not just because I hail from there. I would say it is very welcoming and gracious. It certainly is not pretentious nor does it put on airs. The community engagement is a big part of that feeling.

Fort Wayne has true seasons. The fall is beautiful, with 2 months or so of visible foliage change. The winters can be pretty brutal, Winter of 2013 was especially rough because of the polar vortex. Most schools have 3 or so built in snow days, as the city is not so great at clearing snow. Spring is nice, and lasts quite awhile; it takes the city some time to shake off the winter. Summers are great, but make sure you have air conditioning, as it can get very hot and humid.Avoid the Southeast parts of the city, and you will not see much violent crime. That is where the gang crimes and other poverty driven crimes occur most. Robbery occurs at random, especially during hard times. Otherwise, the city is pretty safe!Aboite Township, the Southwest part of the city, is pretty great. It is basically a white suburb. Also, the old money in the city lives off Russel street, the biggest and best houses are on Old Mill Road. Be careful though, as this is a nice oasis in a not so great part of town. The rest of downtown is much less desirable.Fort Wayne is pretty white, but in the city there is a good ethnic mix. Recently, there was a ton of refugees who emigrated from Southeast Asia, and they have become part of the community. People are very nice and always willing to help with directions!

You can either go to Jefferson Pointe, which is outdoor, or Glenbrook, which is indoor. Glenbrook is considered to be better. Most of these are chains, but the Casa Restaurant group is locally owned and has great Italian food. The Fort Wayne Community schools are horrible. Most of the parochial schools are not good either. Try to get your children into Southwest Allen County schools. Most people pair off early, but ignore the club scene and volunteer or find people other ways. The clubs are horrible.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
No one lives by the airport, really, but a highway does circle the city. It is easy to avoid living near it.Roanoke will give you more of a small town feel, but Fort Wayne is more populous and upscale than neighboring cities, as it is the largest. Stay away from Gary, especially. There are many great hospitals here. The worst one is St. Josephs, the rest are great. The Zoo is one of the top in the country, the science center is really great for kids!
General comments
This is a bigger city in the state, so there is much more to do here than in surrounding areas. You'll meet many people who drove in for the day, as well as people who live in the suburbs.
