Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Gardnerville, Nevada? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Gardnerville?
Matthew Johnson reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | There are usually intermediate heavy snow storms in the winter, but the snow doesn't stick to the valley floor for more than a few days, though icy roads are constant problem in the winter. It gets fairly hot in the summer and lingers around 90-100 degrees at the very hottest, but most days are fair late april-september. Occasionally very windy, but mountains on all sides usually discourage strong winds. | | Very little to no crime. Occasional thefts or assaults in the newspaper, but overall very low crime. I read the newspaper and there are always small bits about a few crazies but nothing above what is typical for a town this size. | | I lived In the foothills, which is the nicest part of town. Nice neighborhoods include Chichester, Sierra Country Estates, Sheridan, and Ruenstroff. The Gardnerville Ranchos is the biggest suburban area and is fairly nice. Less nice areas include East Valley and nearby Topaz Residential Estates, which is notorious for meth lab raids. Overall I have always felt safe at night in any part of the town because it is quiet, well lit, and well patrolled. | | Most of the people a have that small-town midwest hospitality but there are a good amount of rowdy rednecks and cowboys. Our county has the largest amount of elderly (relatively) than any other county. the people drive old cars poorly and take forever in stores, but once you get talking to them, everyone knows someone who knows you. Because there are so many elder, driving through town can be frustrating, but all of the people are friendly and polite for the most part. This is a town that is deserted on Sunday mornings. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | Poor, most journey to Carson City (15 minutes) or to Reno (40 minutes) for quality shopping. But there is a Walmart, Raleys, Walgreens. | | Cowboy Cafe, Katie's, Saletti's, CV steak, Franciscos, and El Aguila Real are local favorites. | | Excellent! The teachers are genuine and have become good friends to my parents and myself. I fully intend to return there with my own children one day. | | Fairly low. The vast majority of people that live here are old or married. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | If you live near farms you can hear coyotes or in the spring cows make a lot of noise birthing. Other that there are two main highways, 395 and 80, but are fairly isolated. | | Genoa is the nearest town, and is the oldest town in all of Nevada. If one is interested in building a home, there is a lot of open land, but the town is tiny. It is fully of history, and is home to many "Nevada's first" and the grave of the famous Snowshoe Thompson. It is cheap to live there but the homes are a century old and are far from stores. The next nearest town is famous South Lake Tahoe, which located at the top of Kingsbury Grade, which connects Gardnerville to Lake Tahoe. The Lake and surrounding houses are beautiful and are great if one loves to ski or hike or mountain bike, and the city has casinos, beaches, Heavenly village, many small shops with handmade items, shopping centers, boating, and much more, but the whole place gets pummeled with snow and is expensive to live there. Gardnerville is perfect because it is cheap to live there and is a short 15-20 minute drive to the lake. | | Reno-Tahoe Cline and Urgent Care at Carson Valley Medical are both full of experienced doctors that retired to the small town for a quieter life. | | Lake Tahoe, Job's Peak, Carson River, Lake Topaz, Hope Valley, Kirkwood. | General comments | | | | | | | The town is largely farms and ranches with a few suburban areas. It is very homey and teeming with wildlife. Though it is high desert, the town has a high water table and is very colorful in the spring and one can be very close to nature in Gardnerville if they so wish. Wild horses can be spotted in the Pine Nut Mountains on the east side of the valley and deer can be spotted near the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the west side of the valley. I attending the High School, and though it is old the teachers are fantastic and i fully intend to return there with my own children one day. | | | | | | |
