Tammy Foster reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The temperatures in Hillsdale during the summer are usually between 70 and 80 degrees, it sometimes even reaches in the 90's if you figure in humidity. In spring and fall, temps are usually between 50 and 70 degrees, which isn't to bad. However, it can get pretty cold in the winter, sometimes temperatures fall below zero during December, January and February. You can expect to see some rain and thunderstorms in summer, spring and fall. You should also be prepared to see snow on the ground during, sometimes there is between 10 and 15 inches of snow coating the land in Hillsdale. The crime rate is much lower in Hillsdale compared to most of the other Michigan towns, but some major and minor crimes do occur here. Two of the most common crimes that you will see in this town are thefts and burglaries. As far as I know there has never been a murder reported in this town and only a few rapes have been reported in the past few years. Some of the minor crimes that you will come across are traffic violations, domestic issues and occasionally a vandalism will take place in this town. However, for the most part the crime rate is pretty low. There are some very pretty modern houses on Ivy Lane and Bridge Road, many of these homes are less than five years old or have been updated and look sensational. There are a lot of people who say this area of town is one of the best areas Hillsdale. It is just east of Barber Lake. There are older houses located on Spring and Lewis Street, this area of town is west of Barber Lake. Some people would say this is one of the bad areas of Hillsdale. I must say though my aunt lived in this area a few years back and she never had any problems, but a couple of her friends said the area was one of the bad parts of town. Most of the residents seem to be very nice, we did meet a couple of people who were pretty rude and nasty. However, overall everyone was very friendly. There are mostly white people living in Hillsdale, but you can expect to see a few people from other races, as well. Many of the residents living in this town are in their late twenties or early thirties, plus, less than half of the population is married. I you are in your late thirties and single or even married than you would fit well in this town. Just remember it does get cold during the winter months so be prepared for that temperature drop.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
There are several places in Hillsdale to shop, one of my favorite places to shop is called MaggieAnne's, they offer some really cool women's clothing, I usually always buy something from this place when I visit this town. The Broad Street Downtown Market has some really good food. The schools are pretty good in Hillsdale. I never heard anyone say anything negative about them. Some singles go to The Hunt Club of Hillsdale to mingle with other singles, it is a pretty nice place with good food.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is a Municipal airport in Hillsdale, but I have never heard anyone complain about noise or other distracting problems in this town.Litchfield is a neighboring town to Hillsdale, these two towns are about 20 minutes from one another. Litchfield is much smaller than Hillsdale and doesn't have as much to offer in regard to entertainment, restaurants and shopping areas. Reading is another neighboring town to Hillsdale, these two towns are about 16 minutes from one another, Reading is also much smaller than Hillsdale. Matter of fact, it is also a little smaller than Litchfield, as well. If you don't mind leaving in a larger town than I would recommend Hillsdale because it really has a lot more to offer in entertainment, restaurants and shopping. The Hillsdale Community Health Center is a good place to go for medical attention, the staff and doctor's are really nice at this facility.Whiskey River Campground is really nice, it offers a place to fish and a small area for kids to swim. My grandchildren love going to this campground.
General comments
The town is really clean, there are rolling hills throughout the area thus making the area look really pretty. For the most part, people are friendly and always willing to help a tourist in need or to loan a hand to other residents who are seeking some help. There are a couple of really nice lakes in this region of Michigan. Overall, I would certainly recommend this town to anyone looking for a place to call home, of course, the person would have to be okay with the snow and cold during the winter.
