Life in Hoboken, New Jersey

Hoboken Reviews New Jersey Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Hoboken, New Jersey? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Hoboken?
Jake Dempsey reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in Hoboken is very average for the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The winters are long and cold, and the summers are hot and humid. In the winter there is a good chance that we will see upwards of fifty inches of snow and ice. In the summer, we see many different thunderstorms, and can even have a chance of being hit by a hurricane or a tornado, though both cases are very rare. There is a lot of crime in Hoboken that focuses upon the extensive drug trade and all of the violence that goes into running such a dangerous enterprise. There is a lot of assaults, and people that will intimidate people for money on the street just for walking by. Also, there is a lot of drug activity, including people controlling certain corners of the city, and there is very little that the police can or will do to fix this problem. The only good part of the town is located by the western edge of the town, where the historic area of Hoboken is located. The houses in this area tend to be large and inhabited by wealthy, upper class, white individuals. The other parts of the town, especially by the train station are wrought with crime. The homes in this part of the city tend to be mainly apartment complexes and rowhomes. The people who live in here are racially diverse, and mostly white. The worst area of the city is near the waterfront. The majority of people it this town are white and lower middle class, working blue collar positions, and are young. The vast majority of people in this town are white, and to be honest there is a little bit of scorn for people that are not white when they move into areas that have been part of a specific culture such as the Italians or Jewish area. The other people that do not fit in well in this town are the lower class people who are typically viewed as criminals.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown shopping area is large and busy, but it is still nothing compared to Manhattan which is right over the river. The best restaurants are called 3 Forty Grill and Cucharamama. Both have great cuisine at prices that are as big as your imagination. The public schools here are average, with some good students and teachers and some bad ones. They need more funding for more staff. There are many bars and parks in the area in which to meet nice singles.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is a lot of traffic, boats, and airplanes. One of the neighboring areas is Manhattan. It is the business and cultural hub of the United States. It has some of the best shopping, most diverse people, and has the highest cost of living that you are ever going to find in this area of the world. However,it is also one of the most exciting areas to live in the world, and it is better than Hoboken. Another neighboring town is called Weehauken. They are another town like ours with many people, extensive shopping, and small houses that are dwarfed by the sheer size of Manhattan, but it is better to live in Hoboken because we do not get all of the traffic. The local hospital is called Hoboken University Medical Center and they have some state of the art equipment and medical professionals. The riverfront is a nice place to visit and so is the Maxwell Place Park.
General comments
The town mostly feels like a busy city area that overlooks the busiest city in the world. While our city has many large businesses and shopping areas, all of these are dwarfed by Manhattan. The town is very nice to walk around on the riverfront, but only during the day. Once you have seen the sites of the city, it is best to leave the city before night because that is when the major crimes begin to occur throughout the city.
