Jersey City Reviews New Jersey Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Jersey City, New Jersey? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Jersey City?
Jake Dempsey reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in the summer is very hot and tends to produce several severe weather patterns in the form of thunder storms and an occasional hurricane. The winter in Jersey City tends to be very cold and wet, with many nor'easters to pummel the coast with snow and some clipper systems moving through to drop small amounts, frequently. There is not a lot of extreme weather in this area of the state, though. There is a fair amount of crime in this town like any other. First and foremost, there is the a lot of theft in the form of smartphones and other different valuable goods. Also there is a fair amount of drugs being sold in the area around here. While the Sopranos may have popularized the area as being a territory for mafia related activity, that is only about half true. There is organized crime, but it is not as active as in past years. The best parts of town are called the heights or referred to as the cliffs. This area is full of expensive houses which are massive, multi-level homes that overlook Manhattan. The people in this area of town are mostly white. These is very little crime in this area because it is so well protected by the police and neighborhood watch programs. The bad areas of the city are located by the lower docks and the Newtown area of town. There are a lot crimes committed in this section of town. The houses are shabbier and there are a lot of lower class apartments. This section of town is ethnically and economically diverse. The people in this town are mostly young, single, educated, and white collar in the wealthy section or ethnically diverse, blue collar, and married in the poor section. If you belong to either one of these groups, then you will not wish to go into the opposite section. The wealthy people will become a target in the poor section of Jersey City and the poor people will be looked down upon in the wealthy part of the city.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown shopping area is filled with many shopping opportunities that represent a great deal of cultures. The best restaurants are Razza's and Thirty Acres. They have the best food even though they are expensive. The public schools in this city are average. They have a good graduating percentage but they could use some teachers and funding. There are many bars and parks to meet single people. Also, Manhattan is right across the river.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is the noise of planes landing in Newark and New York as well as a lot of traffic. One of the neighboring towns is called Newark. This is a haven for crime that is only saved by the presence of the airport and a satellite campus of Rutgers university. While there is crime there is also a good amount of shopping areas that only a city can bring. The houses in the town cost less, but given the safety of the city, Jersey City is a better place to live. Another neighboring town is called North Bergen. It is a nice place to live that is populated by rich, wealthy individuals with a lot of money. Given its prestige and safety, North Bergen is a much better place to live. The local hospital is the Jersey City Medical Center. They have access to help for everything except major trauma. The nicest places to visit in the town are Harismus Cove and the Cliffs.
General comments
The city is famous for being one of the most culturally diverse in the entire country. There are many different areas of the city that are perfect places to see and meet people from all over the world. Some sections are more sophisticated and well-built than others, but there are some others that have the feeling of a large street market, where you will rub elbows with people all over. This is also the type of place that you will get pickpocketed in as well.
