KATHY EDISS reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Julian is at 4200' so they get snow in the winter, temps range from 30's to 50's. In the summer it is clear and crisp with temps in the 40's to 80's.Juilan is a small resort town with a great history going back to the 1870's. Crime is very minimal, only an occasional burglary in the local tourist stores. Most of the 300 residents are full or part-time. Since it is a mountainous community the homes are spread out through out the town. The surrounding area has approximately 2,000 - 3,000 homes or cabins. The majority of the permanent residents are 80% Caucasian with the remainder mixed. The town is full of very friendly people. When visiting, a person can feel as if they have lived there and everyone is their best friend. It seems no one cares what your ethnicity is, they treat you like family.

The downtown shopping is amazing. The historical shops, some dating back to the late 1800's, are full of handmade bird houses, candy, local artifacts and delicious apple pie. It is only a few blocks long. There are several small coffee shops but also the Apple Orchards restaurant has great food, lots of hot apple pie. And the Mining Company has great steaks, seafood and apple pie.The public schools are very small and the student population is small. Since the permanent residents are less than 300, the children are few.Julian is a great place for singles to visit and perhaps spend the weekend and visit the many shops.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Julian is so quiet you could hear a tree fall. There is not a small mountainous community with the history and atmosphere within 60 miles of Julian. There is a small stagecoach stop with a restaurant approximately 30 miles away. There is a small urgent care but if one needed major medical attention they would have to go at least 60 miles to Carlsbad or Temecula. The whole town and adjacent forest is beautiful. There are some great B & B's, old mines, hiking, and picking apples.
General comments
Julian is fun and friendly. There are many historical sites to visit and learn about the mining town it used to be. Also, Julian is famous for its apple pie, and be able to pick your own apples. A few cozy hotels and Bed & Breakfasts to spend the weekend.
