Kalamazoo, MI summers can range from 70-80 degrees. On the other hand in the winters you may see it down to 15 degrees. If you factor in the windchill you may even see below zero. Kalamazoo also gets a lot of snow during its winters due to the lake effect snow.Kalamazoo has many kinds of crimes. Domestic violence is probably one of the most common crimes i have heard about taking place here. I have also personally heard that there is a lot of burglary that occur. You will see that there is some drinking and driving cases some being college student related. Every now and again you will here about a murder or rape case. These two cases are a lot less common though.Kalamazoo has a few bad neighborhoods but none that are horrible to live in. I would consider staying away from the Vine neighborhood if you can as it can be a little rowdy at times. Also if you get near the college you will most likely always be hearing some sort of noise at all times. There also seems to be slightly more crime near this area of town. I have heard great things about the Breton Woods area. They have some new construction homes in this area and it is a very peaceful and quite area to be in. This would be more of the type of area you would want to have your family in. Its a wonderful spot for your kids to play with other neighbor kids. Everyone is this neighborhoods seems very trusting. There are many different races in this town. Whites make up the majority of this town though. There seems to be some blacks as well but there are not nearly as many as the whites. I would say i have ran into friendly people here but i would still be a little choosy who you pick as your friends. There are a lot of college students in this town and they can be very overwhelming at times. I would stay to yourself until you really figure out who someone really is.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
There is a lot of shopping centers downtown as well as bars. The landscaping downtown always seems to be kept up. You can be sure that you will find something to do while visiting downtown weather it be shopping or stopping into the bar to have a burger.Los Amigos in Kalamazoo is great Mexican restaurant. You can always expect great service here. I personally love to just get a great pizza from Maestros pizza located on 12th street. They also have great subs. The public schools here are great. I hear that they have an awesome program that helps students pay for their college tuition. To be honest that alone is a big plus in my opinion. The opportunity for singles in this area are endless. With this being a college town there are always people looking to find their significant other. There are also many bars and clubs in the are which are also great meeting areas.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
You will surely here some loud music playing near the college. There is also a little more normal traffic noise than some neighboring towns. You may also here some parties if you live near the college.Kalamazoo is a much bigger town. Paw Paw, MI is near Kalamazoo. It generally takes about 20-25 minutes to travel to each other. Paw Paw is a much smaller town and it has that small town feel to it. Both of these towns offer stores but i would say it really depends on what type of living you like better. Paw Paw is probably the safer one of the two just being that it is smaller so there is less crime there. Kalamazoo has a ton to offer though with the college and clubs.Borgess Medical Center is a wonderful hospital. The staff here are always keeping a positive attitude and taking great care of their guests. This is one of the best hospitals in the area. The Kalamazoo Valley Museum is a great spot to stop and see. They have a ton of information on the Kalamazoo area to offer. It is a very big museum and has stuff just for kids as well as the adults.
General comments
I really get the impression that this is a very college oriented town. It seems to be very up beat and everyone is always on the move. You could also move here with your family though. There are many beautiful neighborhoods that would be great for family living. Although some of the homes in nicer areas can be quite expensive. You do get a lot of home for your money though. It seems they do have a lot to offer as far as jobs which is always a plus.
