Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Kittrell, North Carolina? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Kittrell?
Latieya Goode reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | The weather in Kittrell NC is hot in the summer. The temperatures can get up in the hundreds in the summer. The summers in Kittrell can be bleed into the fall making it seem as though there are only three seasons. The autumns in the town are often warm and can sometimes feel like an extension of the summer. Winter is often cool. Rarely does snow fall in Kittrell but when it does the snow is likely gone the next day or close to it. Rain is frequently moderate and fairly rare. When it rains most of Kittrell is flood free. 65-70 percent of the days are clear with good weather. Winds are low and rarely do tornadoes successfully form. When hurricanes form on the coast and come inland Kittrell often suffers little damage. Normally, wind, rain, and possibly hail are the only issues. | | In Kittrell crime is rather low and less severe than big cities. Most of the crimes committed in the town are opportunistic, drug related, or situational and secluded. There is rarely white collar crime. I would say the little town is fairly safe for normal drug free people. Small town, bored teens can get into trouble in this town and often do by spray painting signs and stuff like that. People still leave their doors unlocked in this little town. | | The historical district of Kittrell, five miles or so in any direction around Railroad Street and Main Street, is often quiet and low crime. Everyone knows everyone around there. Grocery and gas stops are easily accessible along the highway,U.S. 1. Kittrell is a very small community. There are mostly black , white, and Hispanic people mixed in together in all areas of the town. Outside of the historical district ,where homes are as and older than the Civil War, there are one or two trailer parks, several dozen scattered trailers, a Confederate graveyard located on West Chavis Rd, but most homes are cinder block, wood, or brick homes built between 1950 and 2013. Rent and mortgages in the area are low compared to bigger cities like nearby Henderson and Raleigh. | | The people in Kittrell, since everyone mostly knows or knows of everyone else, are friendly, blue collar people. Races co-mingle a fair amount. There are a few people who are close minded but they often keep to themselves. There are a lot of southern, working class, older, white people who grew up farming the land in and around Kittrell. In a few words you could say Kittrell is a farm community who is sending it's young people away to college or for work. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | Shopping is limited to the two gas stations on U.S. 1 and the newly built Dollar General. If you need cheap clothes, things like milk, eggs, and bread, or gas then shopping is easy. If you need more specific or exotic things you will have to take a trip to Henderson, Franklinton, or another place. | | The only resturants are the little restaurants in the gas stations on U.S. 1. One gas station is relatively new and the food there is generic food although their Philly cheese steaks are good when you get on of the Middle Eastern owners who run the place to make the sandwich. Kittrell Grocery, next to the post office, has been around for as long as anyone can remember and their little restaurant serves decent home-style soul food which I would suggest any Kittrell-ite try at least once. Beware, restaurants from neighboring Henderson and Franklinon do not deliver to Kittrell. | | The elementary school has taught generations of my family and I remember the teachers there being encouraging and concerned. With my neice going to Zeb Vance Elemetary School now I notice some of the counselors and teachers being very caring and trying to keep her and other students from falling through the cracks. The Job Corps on U.S. 1 a ,few miles from the post office and gas stations, is often where wayward high school drop outs go and has been said to be a good place to find a vocation. | | If you are single and looking to stay single I would suggest getting a few acres with an old farm house on them on the outskirts of Kittrell. If you are single and want to find a mate you might want to consider moving to nearby Henderson. There is as much opportunity for singles in Kittrell as there is in any other small town but there would be more success in a place with more social hangouts. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | The train tracks run parallel to the highway on Railroad Street cutting Kittrell in half. As long as you do not live directly on the tracks and the highway Kittrell can be a quiet place. When hunting season rolls around gun shots can be heard in the right places but otherwise there are no odd sounds. | | Franklinton is about the same as Kittrell. Henderson, on the other hand, is a good deal bigger than Kittrell. People from Kittrell often go to Henderson for their shopping(Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Lowes, etc.), to eat out at Hendersons' semi-large selection(Mayflower, Papa Johns, Mcdonalds, Ruby Tuesday, Golden Corral, etc.), fun, and send their children to Henderson to school. Henderson is the better choice compared to Kittrell and Franklinton. Franklinton is little better than Kittrell because it has a slightly larger fast food selection, is closer to Raleigh, and a few more opportunities for jobs. | | The nearest hospital is Mariah Parham in Henderson and many of the residents can be qouted as calling Mariah Parham Murder Parham and prefer to go to Granville Regional or even to Wake Forest or Raleigh for medical care if the urgent cares in Henderson or Franklinton are unable to address the issue. | | There is a newer bar on the outskirts of Raleigh on U.S. 1 coming from Franklinton that is pretty much the only place to get alcohol, save the gas stions, in Kittrell. Other places to visit are the Confederate Cemetary otherwise there aren't many nice places to visit. There are no noteable parks, playgrounds, or sites to visit. | General comments | | | | | | | The town feel very much like a small, quiet, good-ol' boy town. The town is steeped in history. The community is close and tight knit. The people are nice and friendly. If you blink while drive down U.S. 1 you will miss the town. A perk is the lack of traffic lights in the town. There are a lot of people who like camouflage, trucker hats, and guns that can be classified as...avid hunters. Those men often are rough and tumble truck owners, the blue jeans, tee shirt, beer kind of people. There isn't really anything to do in Kittrell. | | | | | | |
