Cory reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in Lansing varies a lot by season like many Michigan towns. In Lansing you can be sure to see snow every winter with temperatures bitter cold ranging from 0 degrees up to 20 degrees. In spring you can see temps in the 40's and 50's. April and May seem to be quite windy every year.Lansing, MI has a lot of crime. The majority of crime is burglaries. You will also hear a lot about assaults as well as robberies. They also have many other smaller petty crimes such traffic violations or driving without a license. You will also hear about drinking and driving cases here. Some may be due to the college kids. The west side of Lansing seems to be a little nicer neighborhoods. If you get on the east side of Lansing it is a little more run down. I have heard that the east side is not the greatest place to live although I have drove through there and it does not seem all that bad to me. On and around Pine Ridge Road you can find beautifully homes with great landscape. There are a lot of homes in this neighborhood with prices ranging from $300,000 and even up to almost a million dollars. You get so much home in this area for your money though. These homes have so much to offer. The Young Avenue are has some cheaper and much older homes. These houses are cheap and may need some updating but they are so affordable for any budget. These places start as low as $24,000 in this neighborhood.Lansing has many different races. The majority of the race being white. Not far behind the whites are blacks. You will also see many Hispanic in the area as well. There are not very many Asian or Chinese but there are a few. This is a town where you will want to choose your friends carefully. With this being a bigger town you never really know who someone really is or what they are out there to do. I would just really get to know someone before you just invite them over or go out with them. In general a lot of residents in Lansing are great people but there are always them few that are up to no good.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown area is beautiful with some nice historic homes. The shopping has much to offer such as small coffee shops and small antique shops. The Texas Roadhouse in Lansing is a great place to eat. They serve American food. Meals usually costs right around $12-$20. Another wonderful place is Asia's Finest they have some great Chinese food to offer.Lansing has a few different school. They are all run the same way and have a great athletic program. The teachers and staff seem friendly and always willing to answer any question a parent or student may have. They have so many opportunity for singles in this town. One main reason is because there are many single college students of all ages. They have many bars and clubs to meet other single people at.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
You will always here noise in this town it seems like no matter day or night. If you go near the college it seems to be a bit rowdy almost all the time. It can also be a bit noisy near the airport with planes flying in and out.Lansing is a big town with a lot to offer. St. Johns is a smaller town but still has what you need for everyday living. The travel time to get to one another is approximately 20-30 minutes. The commute really does not seem all that long though. St. Johns offers a variety of stores. If you like bigger towns then Lansing is probably the place for you. Lansing offers a mall along with many other stores. I would recommend living in St. Johns because the town is much smaller and that is the kind of living that i love. The local hospital is called Sparrow Hospital. They are a fairly good size hospital. The staff here is friendly and always try and make sure you are satisfied with you visit. You can take a tour of the Capitol building right here in Lansing. This is a nice place to see. If you have children or just like to see animals you may want to make a visit to the Potter Park Zoo. The zoo has many animals to see and activities to participate in.
General comments
This town is certainly a more up beat town. Everyone is always on the move and trying to get to there next stop quickly. Its what i would call very fast flowing. The town in general is pretty clean and nice looking but if you get over toward the college it can be slightly dirty. I like a much slower place environment so this is not really for me all though they have so much to offer here.
