Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
The weather is varied. The town experiences all four seasons. The winters change around, some years they are bad and some years they are so mild you could hardly call them winters. The summers are hot and humid. It is considered a rarity if the temperature exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit, however, so it is not unbearably hot. There are also good rains that help sustain the heat. All our seasons are more than tolerable and provide for an enjoyable year that offer plenty of things to do. | | There is crime here but the police force is large and their presence is everywhere. Word travels about neighborhood break-ins into garages and cars, mostly to those careless enough to leave them open or unlocked. There is gang activity but it is mild compared to many of the other cities outside of the D.C. metropolitan area. There has been only one gang-related murder and it gained so much press that the police beefed up it's gang-related task forces. Since then I have not heard of any gang-related murders in the city or for that matter, the county. The police are everywhere and because of that I feel very safe. They actively patrol in the neighborhoods and respond quickly to 911 calls. Major crimes are taken very seriously and dealt with efficiently and effectively. | | The town is mostly upper and middle class. There are very nice neighborhoods, in fact they take up the majority. There is only one area of town that is bad and it happens to be located right where the police station is. That part of town is occupied mostly by a Latino population. The demographic for the rest of the town varies. Each neighborhood has citizens of every race and ethnic background. The nicest neighborhoods span outside the city and into the county, where houses range from 1 to 6 million dollars. The real estate inside the city is also expensive, but typically will not exceed 1 million. You can live comfortably, but you will need a steady, decent paying job. The cost of living is considered to be high inside city limits. | | People are generally very friendly. The neighborhood communities are tight knit and citizens share friendships with people they live near. There are a variety of wealthy people that live in the county, however, so their is a yuppy population that generates some arrogance. The ethnic mix is varied and you will find people of all kinds. I am satisfied with the friendliness of this town but their is a shed of elitism. Most of the wealthy are demanding, impatient, and arrogant, but on the other hand, some are nice, caring, and respectful. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
The shopping here is terrific. Leesburg has almost every popular commercial franchise. There is also an outlet shopping mall that offers deals and markdowns on nearly every popular brand of clothing, even designer. There are malls all over the area as well, and shopping in Georgetown, which is in Washington D.C., is an awesome experience and not too far to get to. Leesburg itself also has a historic center with local restaurants and shops that are renowned and award-winning. | | The best restaurants are the franchise mainstays but there are self-owned places that match up quite competitively. Most self-owned eateries are good and most of the time preferable. Restaurants are pricey but there are also many options for those under a budget. There are plenty of places to eat. | | The quality of the public schools are top notch. There are older schools and there are newer ones. The county is always building new schools since the population continues to grow. | | There is night life and opportunity for singles. You can either meet someone at the workplace or perhaps through one of your hobby-related activities. The best bet is to go out on the weekends to the well-known or new bars in the area. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
Leesburg, Virginia is only thriteen miles away from Dulles International Airport. Planes are consistent and they produce noise. There is also a local airport where hobby pilots take out their small planes. They fly at a lower altitude but are a pleasure to the eye. Helicopters also frequent the area due to local news, police, medical, etc. There are highways but the noise they produce typically does not interfere with residential life. | | Most towns in the area very similar. To the east they are highly-residential and commercial since most of the general population commutes to the Washington, D.C metropolitan area for work. Towns nearby include Ashburn, Sterling, and Chantilly. When you go west, towns like Hamilton, Purcellville, and Berryville are more rural. There are mountains, farmland, and forests when you start heading towards the Shenandoah. It makes for a nice escape from the urban areas. | | INOVA is the best hospital and right up the road in Landsdowne, VA. Healthcare in the area is top notch. | | When it comes to places to visit, the clear answer is Washington, D.C. There is plenty to do and see there, but to the west of Leesburg, when you head towards the Appalachian mountains and Shenandoah Valley, there are also wonderful things to see and visit. Skyline drive, Luray Caverns, just to name a couple. Certainly not a dull area for those who enjoy sight-seeing and exploring both urban and rural areas. |
General comments | | | | | | |
The town is unlike many in America, in that it has a very high median income for the typical household. There is no sense that the economy and job market are suffering. In fact, the county itself is considered one of the wealthiest in the nation. The town has every popular commercial franchise but also has a good number of self-owned, small businesses. There is a historic part of town but outside that, it is very much a busy, highly-residential, highly-commercial area because most people commute to Washington D.C. for work. | | | | | | |
