Life in Lehi, Utah

Lehi Reviews Utah Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Lehi, Utah? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Lehi?
Emily Walburger reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Lehi's weather is of the desert-like variety, with hot summers and freezing cold winters. Summers are very dry, the sun sometimes seeming to bear down mercilessly. Highs are usually in the 90's and occasionally break 100. High winds at times, but little rain. Winters are very cold, in typical Utah fashion, with lows in the teens. Snowfall can reach a foot or more some months. No tornadoes to worry you, and earthquakes are rare.Crime is fairly low in the city of Lehi. The usual thefts and burglaries make up the majority of crime. Residential break-ins are often reported, as well as vandalizing of public and private properties. Crime in Lehi seems to be a more out of the norm thing, and people feel safe in their community. Some of the best areas in Lehi are located near affluent gated housing communities such as Rosecrest and Spring Ranch. The homes are large, with great prices per square foot, and the communities are well cared for and monitored. Nearby is convenient shopping and dining, as well as office and business building space. The less desirable areas of Lehi would probably be located near the I15 freeway, where noise is a concern and industrial factories such as the historical Lehi Roller Mills are situated.People in Lehi are a friendly and welcoming bunch of folks, an overwhelmingly white population. Its a mix of young married couples with young children and older/retired individuals. It's also a predominantly Mormon community, like much of Utah. Because the majority of people are well-educated, ultra-conservative, and hard-working, the possibility exists that perhaps the more radical and/or loose crowd may not mesh well here.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown area and shopping in Lehi are excellent, and have recently been improved and upgraded. Great stores and restaurants along with a park-like feel attract many patrons.Hogi Yogi is popular in Lehi, featuring excellent subs and sandwiches. Kneaders is another great spot providing artisan breads and made to order entrees.Public schools in Lehi are about average with the rest of the country, and have a fairly low teacher to student ratio. While the night life is not hot, there is an active singles scene in Lehi, due to the large number of Mormon youth that populate the area.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
The main freeway running through Lehi, I15, provides much of the noise pollution in the city. Nearby private air fields attract an occasional small plane.Lehi could be considered a better place to live than nearby Herriman, as Lehi is a closer commute from the freeway with better shopping and outlets. Lehi could also be considered a better place to live than Provo, as Lehi is far less crowded, has cheaper housing options, and is without the college rush of Provo.American Fork Hospital and Riverton Hospital both provide acute and emergency care services. The Lehi Roller Mills is an interesting historical attraction. Thanksgiving Point offers great shopping and recreational activities, as well as a theatre and museum. Lehi also has great outdoor hiking and biking opportunities.
General comments
The general impression that Lehi gives off is a pleasant, albeit somewhat boring one. It feels like a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type place, where things are predictable, and nothing much happens. It's a great place to find a starter home, a safe place to raise your children, and a good place to let your dog off the leash. Neighbors walk to church every Sunday, and take time to smile at one another.
