Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
Summers are especially warm and winters are fairly mild, but cold with some days of snow. Springs/summers and fall can see frequent thunderstorms. Weather is generally mild overall, but can see big changes overnight. | | Most of the crime is petty theft. I've had a friend whose car has been broken into repeatedly and know of barns and family members homes that have been broken into. The other big problem in the area is meth use. Most crimes are related to the problem. | | The good areas of town are generally more out in the country where the homes have a decent amount of land. In town, there are a lot of low-income apartments and trailers parks that are thought of as not being desirable places to live. | | The people are generally very friendly. It's a very country town, the county seat in a fairly rural area. The people are nice and laid back. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
The downtown is a cute little square with the courthouse in the center, but there is little shopping there. Further from downtown, there are several grocery stores and a few clothing stores. | | The best restaurants are probably Farmer's, which has all you can eat catfish every Friday, and Sandy's, which is a drive-in type restaurant with burgers and great fries. | | The public schools are not very well thought of. They are probably adequate but not exceptional. | | There is little opportunity for singles. There are no bars, etc as the county is dry. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
There are very few unusual noise sources. It's a pretty quiet area. | | In the country, Leitchfield is the largest city. Big Clifty and the other surrounding towns are tiny in comparison. In Leitchfield, you at least have a few shopping and dining options. | | There is only one hospital in Leitchfield and it's not very well thought of. It's very small and not equipped to handle big emergencies. They would take you to Elizabethtown and then on to Louisville for most issues. | | The best places to visit are probably the nearby lakes and swimming areas, which are about 10-20 minutes away. |
General comments | | | | | | |
Overall, the town just feels very relaxed. It's a slower pace of living, with little in the way of shopping or dining but the people are nice and it's a comfortable place to be. | | | | | | |
