Michelle Vatcher reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | The weather in Lewiston, ME is typical New England weather. Sometimes, the winters are almost like blizzard conditions. The road conditions in the winter can be dangerous. The summers are hot yet slightly cooler than most of New England. | | Lewiston, Maine does not have much crime. However, some parts of downtown have an atmosphere where people are drinking and smoking weed. Other than that the town is really nice. So, if people stay away from that small part of town then they will feel safe. | | The bad part of downtown Lewiston, ME have run down homes. There is an immigrant population there. Typically poorer people live in that part of downtown. Additionally this part of town is a drug area. The other parts of Lewiston are nice like a middle class neighborhood. Most of the homes in this town are nice family homes. Additionally, you might see a few victorian homes. Only a small section in downtown are old and run down. | | This town is mainly white people with some African immigrants. This town lacks different cultures overall. Lewiston has many blue collar people. There are people of all different ages and martial statuses. Additionally, there are some educated people here as well. Part of the town has a college age population. This is a good place for retired people. However, this town is not the best option for young people looking for work. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | Shopping is ok downtown. However, this town lacks good stores. | | Lewiston, ME does not have a great selection of restaurants. People in these towns usually travel to other towns to find better food options. | | The schools are decent. The town also has a private school. That way parents have more options for school choices. | | This town could work for singles. There are a few bars and restaurants to meet new people. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | There really are no unusual noises except by the exit to Lewiston, ME. | | Auburn is a neighboring town. In many ways Auburn is similar to Lewiston. However, it seems to have less of a run down area. Sabattus, ME is another neighboring town which is quite smaller. Sabattus also has less crime. Practically the whole town of Sabattus is a nice country town. | | Central Maine Medical Center is pretty good. You get seen quickly. This town has decent medical care. | | One of the nicest places to visit in town is the part that connects with Auburn, Maine. There is a neat bridge to see. Lewiston also has a few decent colleges. Bates college is a nice choice for residents. | General comments | | | | | | | This town is nice overall. It is one of the bigger country towns in Maine. However, it does not have much to see or do. The people are friendly. Sometimes, they will greet you with a smile or a hello. You will feel safe in this town. This town is neat due to the fact that it is close to many scenic locations. There are beautiful ponds, lakes and mountains nearby. | | | | | | |

suzanne fillmore reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | The weather in Lewiston is usually pretty good. You get Rain, and sunshine. Not any flooding or hurricanes. The snow is nasty in Maine no matter where you live. So the snow is really not great. I don't like winter to begin with as is. Summer time you can take the kids to the park, or down to the public pool and sprinkler system they have for the town kids to use for free. There's a skate park there too.
| | Crime in Lewiston Maine, I would like to say is low, but it's extremely high. Mostly people start fires. Which is totally unsafe for this town. The buildings are old here and when one catches fire the fire seems to jump from one building to the other. Arsonists are the highest criminals I would say. Drug related crimes aren't as heavy and shootings you hardly hear about except maybe once in a great while. I think that if I really had to pin point it I would pick fire starters as the biggest crime.
| | Worst part of Lewiston for me is Oxford st. That's where I live. The street is horrible, no place to have the kids play. You have to watch out for everything. Night time I wouldn't walk around out there by myself. I always have someone with me. Last year I had two men come up on my back porch and once I looked out the window they took off. They were going to steal bottles off my back porch I think. The best part of Lewiston is my old neighborhood Scribner Blvd that runs off of Lisbon st. That was the best. It was nice and quiet. I had a nice backyard and friendly neighbors. My kids use to have a swing set and slide. They loved it there a lot | | Educated people who have high standards wouldn't want to live in Lewiston. There's really not much to do in the town. Sure there's shopping and hanging out with friends. Go to the movies. Depending on what part of town you live in you have to take the bus to most places. The somalians really don't fit in around town. Even the black people don't like them. I think it's because the way they live, that they had to come to our town and get everything for free where a lot of people work their tails off and they still can't get help from the state. Everything is just handed to them. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | Downtown is alright, they have the dollar stores and Goodwill. I love shopping at Goodwill. I think that is the best place to go shopping if you have a lot of kids. Or just shopping for little ordinary items that you can use for the house. | | The Chinese Restaurant in Lewiston. Lisbon St, not too far from where I live. Maybe a fifteen minute walk. They have a variety of foods from American to Asia and of course Chinese food. | | Lewiston public schools. My nephew use to go to one. They treated him horribly and told my sister that he would never graduate high school. He's in the 5th grade right now. He is now also home schooled because my sister thought that was best for him. | | I don't know about singles. I don't go looking around. I am with someone so I don't go out and meet people very often. I am sure that most singles would go to the bar. The popular one around here is the Acme Club. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | There's no high way and no Jet Port here. The most noises we hear is cop sirens and that is late at night. | | Auburn is right across the bridge for Lewiston and then Augusta is an hour away from Lewiston. Auburn has Walmart and more fast food chains then Lewiston does. August I have been to just passing through. I think that Augusta if I lived there I would need some sort of car because the stores are too far away from each other. The city bus goes from Lewiston to Auburn so if you really want something to do you should take the bus and go into Auburn. | | St Mary's is where I always go if I have to go to the hospital. I have had two children there at St Mary's and they did a wonderful job taking care of me and the baby. I am also having another baby which I will have at St Mary's. | | I wouldn't really say that there's a good place to go to hang out in Lewiston. The pool halls that's about it. Fast Breaks is the best place I would say if you are looking to hang out, have a good meal and play some pool. I think it's the best place to go when it's time for the Superbowl. | General comments | | | | | | | Lewiston the truth? It's a dump. Buildings are slowly falling apart, landlords are not the best. Like I live in a apartment building where my living room roof leaks when it rains. There's no real water pressure for the shower. And nine times out of ten there are bed bugs. We are moving right off. I can't wait. Hopefully to a better part of town. My impression of Lewiston is that the town can do a lot better cleaning up this place. Instead they would rather spend their money on wanting to put in a casino or putting in a new hotel or bank. I really think that with some help the town can be cleaned up and look just as good as Auburn. | | | | | | |
