Ken L. reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
Hot and sticky in the summers with temps from high 80's to high 90's. Mainly in the months of June, July, and August. Winters are fairly mild with temps from mid 30's to 60's and even 70's some years. Pollen from the pine trees can be choking in the early spring months. | | Crime rate in 2012 was 2.87 on a scale of 5. Evidentaly these must be petty crimes that aren't news worthy like the high crimes. Overall it's a pretty safe little town that I know of. | | The only real bad areas that I know of are actually within two blocks of the Lexington Co. Sherrifs Dept. on Gibson Rd. The main two blocks of downtown are safe since the Lexington Town police Dept. is right there behind the Courthouse. I think most areas in the city limits are pretty safe though. | | Like most places in the south, that southern hospitality takes over. In general, most people are outgoing and willing to help or give you any info that you might be asking about. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
The two blocks in the main part of downtown don't have much. But there are a couple places there and maybe one or two specialty type shops. But you can get to many National chain stores(Kohls,Walmart, etc.) with a 3-10 minute drive. | | A great Variety of restaurants can be found in Lexington. Just about anything your palate desires. From Seafood, Sushi to quaint bistros. A few examples are, Gilligans Steamer and Raw Bar, Hudsons Smokehouse(mmmmm), Flight Deck, Bellicinos Pizza & Grinders plus much much more. | | Lexington actually has good schools. Lexington middle and Lexington High are the main ones. There are a couple smaller private schools. And White Knoll is in the area also, depending on if your in that school zone to go to it. | | Quite a few places to mingle and socialize in the area such as bars and restaurants.A few with live entertainment. But I think the chance of getting hooked up is better with your freinds introducing you to someone. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
Pretty quiet for the most part. But like any city or town you have the occasional Police, Firetruck, and Ambulance siren. Maybe the roar of a Harley or Ninja sounds. But other than that a pretty peaceful little town. | | It is fairly small as a town. Lexington county however covers a vast majority of the region. There are things to do in Lexington(town), but if you want more, you can always go into Columbia which is only a short drive. | | Lexington Medical Center is the closest major hospital to the town of Lexington, but only about a 15 minute ride. But there are a couple of the "Doc in the Box" emergency centers that are right in town. | | For a town as small as Lexington, there are a number of things to do. The Lexington county Museum, Hazelius House, Virginia Hilton Park and more. If you want anything else, Columbia is a short drive to the Zoo and Museums, etc. |
General comments | | | | | | |
Small town feel actually. But it has been growing over the past few years. There has been an abundance of growth in homes and apts. But Lexington is a pretty good place to be and raise a family. | | | | | | |
