The summers here are pretty much hot and humid. The average daytime temperature during the summer is 90 to 95 degrees. If the day has been usually hot (95'or so) we will experience a thunderstorm with dangerous lightning and heavy rain. Winters are somewhat cold with the daytime temperature of about 35 to 45 degrees. Some winters are filled with snow and/or ice storms but the snow does not lay around all winter. On rare, weird winters there are mild temperatures of about 50 to 55 degrees during the day. The Spring and Fall seasons are very nice but can be short.Matthews is on the border of Charlotte, NC which is a growing city and as a result it is starting to see an increase in crimes such as home break-ins, car break-ins, store robberies, and domestic assaults. Occasionally Matthew will have a some reports of individuals being arrested for white collar crimes such as embezzlement, extortion, bribery, etc. Even though Matthews is just over the border of a large city it is still relatively a safe town.Matthews is a really nice town and it is very difficult to find a bad side of town. Most of the homes in this town are new, large, and or renovated to look so. There are a lot of new housing developments that offer townhome style living like along a part of McKee Rd. There are also new housing developments being built along Matthews Weddington Rd. Several of the homes in this area have private swimming pools. If there is a bad side of Matthews to be found it is in the northeastern side of town near the industrial businesses. As the large city which borders Matthews grows, so does Matthews NC therefore it is becoming diverse. The majority of the population in Matthews is Caucasian but that is quickly changing. From hippies to church goers, old to young, blue collar to white collar you will see all types in Matthews. The dating seen can be somewhat of a challenge because there is a lot of competition but if a person is open and outgoing, they will meet someone. There is surprisingly a huge East Indian population in Matthews and a growing Asian population. There is also a nice retirement community in Matthews.

General comments
Matthews has an historical feel mixed with modern day appeal. It is growing by leaps and bounds. The streets are kept really clean and the yards are beautiful. The downtown area is heavy with traffic on a regular basis due to the attraction of restaurants, shops, and fresh fruit at the farmers market. The people here are nice and friendly. When you visit the post office you are sure to get a nice conversation from a local or two.
