Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Mentone, California? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Mentone?
Millicent Schrock reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather is really hot in the months of July and August with temperatures in the 90-100. The winters have rain and heavy winds called the Santa Ana winds. The temperatures drop down 30 degrees or so at night.

There are few crimes occurring. I have seen domestic violence crimes with property damage. There have been some petty theft. There was a man who stole a woman's purse and ran through yards. There are reports of drugs in the area.

The worst part of town is the main highway where there are older homes that are not taken care of. The better areas are around the high school where there are track homes and custom homes. There are few minorities living in there. The further you get from Mentone Blvd the better the area is. People have more pride in their home and do not put chain link fences to keep people out. The areas around the high school have more families in the nicer homes.
People are very quiet around with older residents. Families fit well around the schools. Singles will probably not fit in because there are no place to hang out. Minority races will feel out of place because there are very few living in the area. There are senior citizens and residents that have lived in their homes for a long time. Those around the school have higher incomes and are white collar households because the incomes must be higher in order to buy property in the area.

There is not a downtown area just a highway that goes through the town with businesses. The main area is not well taken care of.The best restaurant is Mill Creek for a sit down meal and some dancing and A & W fast food for their burgers and root beer floats. There are no other restaurants in the area. The Mill Creek is a great place for meat lovers with the BBQ entrees.
The schools are very nice and provide a good education with a lot of parental involvement with activities and programs. The elementary has small with less students per classroom. There are a lot of volunteering which helps with raising money for the students and special program not paid for by the state. The high school has great parents that make it possible to have a performing arts and band program.
No are few real opportunities for singles because there are very few hang out for singles can go to meet someone. There is one bar, one sit down restaurant, a hookah lounge for singles to mingle. The senior center located on the main highway is a great place for the older population to be involved in the daily activities.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is a lot of traffic down the main highway 38 because it is how you can get to the mountains for the snow and Big Bear Lake with camps along the way.The two close towns are Redlands and Yucaipa. Redlands is a better place to live compared to Mentone because it is bigger with more shopping, restaurants, bars, and more community activities. Yucaipa is bigger but more country like. The cost of living is higher than Mentone but Mentone is cheaper if you want to be closer to the University of Redlands. Mentone has really no character and is a very small area with a small population and is about of the County of San Bernardino. Other areas unlike Mentone are run by those within the city unlike Mentone.
There is a lot of traffic down the main highway 38 because it is how you can get to the mountains for the snow and Big Bear Lake with camps along the way. There are two great hospitals in the area, which is Redlands Community Hospital and Loma Linda University Medical Center, which is famous for its cardiology and proton cancer therapy. The nicest place is the library/Senior Center, Mill Creek restaurant, and the high school for walking around its nice track.
General comments
The older part by the highway is run down and is out dated. It does not seem exciting but just a place to call home if you cannot afford to live in Redlands. The area around the school says its promising and is welcoming. It is like any other little city. This town feels separated from old to new. The older areas seem uninviting. This is not an area people want to move and take their families to live. People seem happier around the school. People care about their homes inside and out.
