Cara Gilmore reports in this review:
Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | Midland, MI has wonderful Summers. They are hot and there are many beaches around to cool off. The Winters can be excruciatingly cold however with a lot of snow that is unpredictable. There are many years where it seems as if Spring doesn't even exist as the Winter months often seem extended. When Spring does come around there isn't too much rain. The wind speeds in the winter can vary but can get as high as 40 to 50 mph, which makes the freezing weather even colder. With all of the woods in Midland, MI the fall is very beautiful with lots of colors to look at. | | Midland, MI is overall a safe town. However, there have been some major crimes over the past few years that should be noted. There was a stabbing murder in the Woodland Apartments. There was also a shooting in the Burger King parking lot up town. There are multiple drinking and driving offenses some which have caused horrible deaths on M-20. There have also been numerous fights and assaults at local bars on M-20. In addition to that, there have been many domestic violence calls in local trailer parks off from M-30. | | Midland, MI doesn't really have a bad part of town. With that said, there are parts of town that are worse than others. Many of the trailer parks are worse than the rest of the areas in town. One of those trailer parks is Whispering Pines Housing Community. There is a mix of races that live there equally. However, the cops are called there a lot for domestic disturbances. The nice, upper class houses in Midland, MI are located up town in subdivisions. Some of the nicer houses are in the Boulder Creek subdivision. These houses are more expensive but worth the price for the living style in the community. | | Midland, MI is a great hometown and a great place to raise a family. The people are mostly friendly and even strangers help out when there is a problem. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities which often bring the whole community together. When you meet people from Midland, MI you can tell they were raised in the country because they are very down to earth. The ethnic mix is equal. There is a mix of many ethnicity, which makes the community even stronger. | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | The downtown area is very clean and neat. There are many things to do from shopping, smaller restaurants, hotels, parks, and even the Tridge. The Tridge is a great place to go for picnics, walks, or taking your family to the park. One of the nicest hotels downtown is the H hotel. There are also a few coffee shops downtown which are great for studying, meeting up with friends, or just hanging out. | | The best restaurants in Midland, MI are Applebees, Logans, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Olive Garden. Olive Garden is newer in Midland but has very tasty Italian food. For those who like spice or burgers, Buffalo Wild Wings would be the place to go. Applebees and Logans are quieter restaurants and are great for families or going on dates as well. | | The public schools in Midland, MI are great. There is a variety of schools to choose from as well as school districts. The three main school districts are Midland, Meridian, and Bullock Creek. Those who live further towards the country general attend Meridian or Bullock school district. Those who live in town are more likely to attend Midland school district. While the Midland school district isn't a bad place to learn, the Bullock Creek and Meridian schools offer a more one-on-one opportunity between the students and the teachers. | | There are many opportunities for singles in Midland, MI. With many bars and clubs in town and out in the country, there is no lack of places to meet new people, dance, and have a great time. There are also many places to go on dates from the bowling alley nearby in Sanford, the mall, many restaurants, and much more. | Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | There is an airport although it doesn't create much noise. Even with M-20 and M-30, there isn't much traffic noise for those who live just off from those roads. There is also Business 10 that is uptown Midland. However, there aren't really any houses directly near the highway which is helpful for those who don't want to live near noisy highways. | | Midland, MI would be above average for other towns and cities in the area. Mount Pleasant, MI is quite similar to Midland in the fact that they are set up about the same way. They both have quiet downtown areas, many parks, and many schools. However, Mount Pleasant, MI has more crime and is a lot busier than the majority of Midland is. Mount Pleasant, MI also has a bigger college which means when college is in, the college students make quite a noise. With the Midland, MI college things pretty much stay quiet. Another town in the area is Breckenridge which is a very quiet town. While Breckenridge is similar to Michigan with the country feel, it is also a lot smaller than Midland. Breckenridge only has 2 schools and hardly any major stores. | | The best hospital actually varies depending on what you are going for. The Midland, MI hospital is not a great place to go to the Emergency Room as they take a long time. If you are looking for a close by Emergency Room, the best one would be the hospital in Mount Pleasant, MI. If you are looking for the best prenatal hospital for early term labors you should go to the Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, MI as they are the best in the state of Michigan. For regular care such as tests and term labor the Midland, MI hospital is great. | | The nicest places to visit in or around Midland are the Tridge, the H Hotel, Olive Garden, the mall, and many of the nearby parks. The Tridge is very nice to view and sometimes in the right seasons the Tridge Farmer's Market is open for a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The H Hotel is by far the nicest hotel in the area. Even if you are living in Midland and need a night out, the H Hotel has all of the beautiful amenities you could need. The Olive Garden is definitely the nicest restaurant in town. This restaurant is very clean and very quiet. The Midland mall may not have as many stores as most malls but it is very friendly and offers a wide range of different stores, not just clothing stores. If you have a family, the nearby parks are a great choice. You can visit many different parks or pick your favorite as well. | General comments | | | | | | | Midland, MI feels like home.
