Oak Park is just outside of the city of Chicago. It is a little warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter, since it is further from the lake. The temperature in the winter varies between 20 and 35 degrees. In the summer it varies from 68 to 84 degrees. Though there may be snow on the ground all winter, Oak Park averages no more than 2 to 4 inches in any given winter month.
Though much of Oak Park's crime is property-related, it does have its share of violent crimes, but the town is still well below the national average.Oak Park has several distinct areas. Oak Park, north of Lake St., is fairly wealthy. Further north to the border is a mostly middle class area. Large apartments and rental units are clustered around the downtown shopping area and the southwest portion of Oak Park. Much oof the crime occurs in these areas, from roughly Lake St. to the Eisenhower Expressway. The majority of Oak Park is single family homes, duplexes and townhouse-type housing. The people in Oak Park are friendly, helpful and tend towards activism, for any number of causes. If you enjoy joining groups and getting involved in issues of the day, this is the place for you.
