Plainedge is located in Eastern Nassau County. Winters are cold and frigid with respectable snowfall totals. The summers are rather hot in Plainedge, be that it is in the interior and center of Long Island. It is the farthest from the water and thus it gets hot and sticky fairly quick during the summer. In the fall, the weather is delightful as it is dry and warm with blue skies and plenty of sun. Springs are damp and grey, and fairly chilly until the summer arrives. Sometimes there is some localized flooding in Plainedge, however the area does not experience too much severe weather. | | Plainedge is a very sleepy community. The town does not have subsections but is comprised of the village itself. The central road that runs through Plainedge is Boundary Avenue. Plainedge's borders blend in to North Massapequa and Bethpage, therefore it at times very difficult to decipher if you are still within the hamlets boundaries or not. The demographic of Plainedge is a predominately white and middle-class population. The homes are basic split level style ranches, ranch homes and some two floor colonials. The Seaford Oyster-Bay slightly touches Plainedge's borders. However Route 135 is an elevated road that is not frequently traveled. | | The closest towns to Plainedge as mentioned are Bethpage and North Massapequa. Plainedge and Bethpage are pretty much interchangeable in both aesthetics and community semblance. The only distinct difference between Bethpage and Plainedge, is Plainedge's absence of any industry and almost non-existent downtown area. Bethpage is larger and features more amenities and more things to do. The same can be said for the sprawling town of Massapequa which meets Plainedges' southern borders. There is no distinct difference between living in any of the three aforementioned communities. | | The closest hospital to Plainedge, is Plainview LIJ Hospital. Plainview LIJ is an excellent hospital and accredited on a state level. | | The biggest point of interest in the Plainedge area is the Powell home. The Powell home is a colonial homestead that sews up some of the Long Island's turn-of the revolution era history. A great place to visit and learn about the area's history. |
General comments | | | | | | |
The town is almost entirely residential. Boundary Avenue sports some of the commerce locally, however the town is rows of suburban side streets illuminated by florescent lights. The town is very quiet and has the feel of an Eastern Nassau suburb. The town is identical to Massapequa or Bethpage, as mentioned you wouldn't know the difference. The town has a peaceful air about it and is eerily quiet in the wee hours of night. | | | | | | |
