Ramona Reviews California Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Ramona, California? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Ramona?
KATHY EDISS reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Ramona is at approximately 1300' above sea level so the winters and fall can be cold at night, 30's, and high in 60's during the day. Rain fall is minimal. Spring and summer are nice at low 50's at night and can reach the mid 90's during the summer. There is very little chance of flooding, snow and mud-slides.Being a small town, crime is not rampant but does occurs more in the downtown shopping area where the most notable crime is burglary in the stores and assault. The outskirts of town have more family oriented neighborhoods which sees theft from cars and personal property the highest crime. The police have a crime enforcement team and their is neighborhood watch in the new home areas. The outskirts of Ramona have homes valued in the millions of dollars and several large well-known horse ranches. The majority of housing that surrounds the outskirts of downtown is priced in the low to mid $400's and is occupied by majority of white, married with families. There is approximately 36% renters living in Ramona in apartments. This area seems to have more lower income black and mix race population. The crime rate is higher is this part of town which is closer to the downtown area. The people in Ramona are friendly small town type of people that enjoy waving at their neighbor and helping a friend-in-need. The majority of population is over 40, 78% white and is married with children. There are larger home sites which offer horse boarding and agriculture. There are many trails to hike or ride your horse. The town is not a good spot for singles as it does not have much of a single atmosphere for meeting and dating.

The downtown shopping area has a lot of history with many original structures still standing. Newer shops are interspersed with the old and offer tourist souvenir items. There are also a couple of coffee shops and cafes. For large shopping, one has to travel to surrounding cities.Ramona has a few small town restaurants but especially notable is the La Cocina Mexican food and Amerient Chinese restaurant. Both are noted to have good portions, good prices and friendly service. The quality of schools is noted to be good with small classes. The high school is noted for it's band, sports and tall flags. All of which have won numerous nation titles. The majority of population is married and since this is a small town geared towards families, the opportunity for singles is minimal.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Ramona is considered a more rural area so the air pollution is very minimal. It is very quiet.Ramona is bordered by Poway and Escondido. Both of these cities are twice a big as Ramona and offer a much larger selection of housing, entertainment and shopping. They are both closer to freeways for convenient travel to and from work. But if one likes the quiet small rural town atmosphere, then Ramona is a better choice. There are only a couple of small urgent care so for major medical care one would have to go to Poway or Escondido hospital. They are cities bordering Ramona so are about a 20 minute drive. The historic sites in Ramona are the best places to visit. There is hiking and an open air theatre to watch the plays - especially 'Ramona'.
General comments
Ramona has a long California history and is famous for it's play 'Ramona' which is a story of the plight of the Native Americans that used to live in the area. There are many archeological sites to visit where you can find rock paintings and etchings. There is also a historic site to visit that shows where the stagecoach used to run between San Diego and Julian. It's a fun town to visit.
