Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
The weather in Rohnert Park in the Winter is very unpredictable. One day it will be 70 degrees and sunny and the next day it will be foggy and misty and then the next day it will be pouring rain and their are flash flood warnings. In the spring things begin to warm up a bit, however we do get a fair amount of rain in late March and early April. Once summer comes around it really starts to heat up. Because we live so close to the ocean it is usually foggy in the morning but by about 11:00am the fog burns off and it really warms up, generally between 80 degrees and 90 degrees. Fall weather is also very unpredictable. Usually we get what we call an Indian summer which means it gets very very hot during September and early October, usually between 90 and sometimes over 100 degrees but once late October hits it begins to cool down and we begin to get our winter weather again | | I have never really experienced crime personally. The only time when I seen any sort of crime was when I was at a gas station filling up my car and two young men were filling up their car at the pump next to me. Two other men came walking down the street and the two groups saw each other and started yelling at each other and then the four boys ran at each other to start a fight. Before they could really even get into anything the gas station attendant ran out with a baseball bat and started yelling at them to break it up or he would call the cops. The boys immediately broke it up and went on their separate ways. I saw that happen about 4 years ago and since then I have never experienced or seen any crime take place in Rohnert Park. | | The best neighborhood in Rohnert Park is a section known as L section. It is located at the south end of Rohnert Park and consists of one long street (Lancaster) with branching streets. There are several parks and a community garden to walk your dog through. The houses are all well maintained and it is particularly beautiful during the holiday season because everyone puts up a huge amount of holiday decorations. The worst neighborhood in Rohnert Park is a section know as A section. This is located in the central part of Rohnert Park. All things considered it is not extremely bad when you compare it to other parts of Sonoma County, however the homes and stores are not well maintained and the streets are in definite need of work. | | I have found that people in Rohnert Park are overall very pleasant. I am fortunate enough to live very close to a health food grocery store called Olivers and I have experienced nothing but good things from the people there. For the most part people are willing to help if you need help with your groceries or give directions or a recommendation for a good restaurant. The only negative aspect to living in Rohnert Park is the fact that it is a college town. Sonoma State University is located right in the heart of the town therefore there are alot of college students who have a tendency to be somewhat selfish and stuck in their own world. This can be difficult to deal with at times but I find if you just ignore their occasional selfishness you will get along fine. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
The shopping is great in Rohnert Park, particularly the mom and pop shops, the thrift stores and the dollar stores. For someone who is on a very strict limited budget it is an ideal place to find good deals. Along with these types of stores, Rohnert Park also have great commercial chain stores including Ross, Target, Walmart, Payless, Berlington Coat Factory, Big Lots, Home Depot and Lowes. We have everything we need without feeling overwhelmed by companies and cooperation. | | I would say the best restaurant is Redwood Cafe. It is a locally owned cafe which serves casual comfort food with healthy organic twists. From squeezed juice to hamburgers their food is delicious. They feature local musicians and local art every day and they have a fireplace and free wifi so its a great place to get work done in a quiet, comfortable atmosphere. | | I am not an expert on the quality of the public schools but from what I have heard from my friends who are teachers, Rohnert Park schools are very good. I have never heard of any large fights or major problems with any of the students and any students I have spoken with have always been very pleasant which I feel is a good reflection on the school system. | | If you are a college student there is definitely opportunities for singles. You have an entire college to choose from. However for people over 25 there really aren't many opportunities to meet new people. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | General comments |
Rohnert Park has a major highway (highway 101) running through the middle of it, but you really can't hear the noise of the cars, especially if you live in the smaller, more eastern part of the town. | | I have always lived in semi small towns and Rohnert Park is a very typical small town, with a typical small town feel. People are either friendly or keep to themselves. There are plenty of businesses to wonder around in and the town in general is maintained very well. The only difference I have noticed in Rohnert Park in comparison to other small towns is that Rohnert Park is a college town therefore there are a large amount of college students living in the town. Being 27 myself I am used to being around college students so it does not bother me at all. I figure it makes the town more eclectic. | | The best hospital in the region is Kaiser Perminente Santa Rosa. It is located in the Santa Rosa, the next town north of Rohnert Park and takes about 20 minutes to drive there. I am a person with significant health problems so I am there very often, especially the ER. The nurses and doctors there have always taken very good care of me and because I do have such significant health issues they always take the extra step to make sure I am comfortable and taken care of. They are fast and convenient and always make sure to answer all of my questions and follow up with any appointments or problems I may have. | | I love living in Rohnert Park. It has a small town feel yet has all of the positive aspects of a larger cities. There is a wide variety of affordable restaurants and a good combination of mom and pop shops and chain stores. The traffic is not horrible and it is easy to drive from one side of town to the other in about 10 minutes. The addition of the new casino has added new jobs which in turn will generate more revenue for the town. You can tell that the town is growing in all the good ways. We are close enough to San Francisco, the Ocean and the Redwoods that it is easy to take a day trip, making you feel like you are able to take a mini vacation. My favorite part of the town is the number of parks and places to walk my dog. There are so many beautiful parks and walking trails that are quiet and peaceful but not so secluded that they feel unsafe. I have lived in Rohnert Park for 8 years and I have really grown to love my town. |
