San Bruno Reviews California Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to San Bruno, California? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in San Bruno?
Randy Anderson reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather is generally quite mild. The winters are wet and chilly, but the lowest temperatures are still above freezing. There is always the chance of frost or some small amount of snow, but the last significant snowfall was in the 1960s. The summers are mild and often windy. The temperatures stay in the 70s most of the summer and it's rare for them to rise above 80.Serious crimes are rare, with San Bruno having a murder every couple of years. Aside from the property crimes you would find in nearly any town, the crime most people talk about are thefts, particularly auto thefts. The perception among residents is that a lot of the crime is associated with the many hotels located near the airport and that is probably a pretty fair assessment. In general, there aren't a lot of bad parts of San Bruno. The one area that is a bit troublesome is near the Tanforan Mall, but even in that neighborhood the streets and houses are a bit rundown but still in overall good condition. As for the best areas, the top area in town lies between Crestwood Drive and San Bruno Ave. W. Many of the homes cost more than $1 million and the area is filled with gated communities and private security guards.Like a lot of places in the San Francisco Bay area, the cost of living limits the types of people who can live there. The average resident is likely to either be a very successful business person with a family or a group of singles sharing a house to save money. Since it's located between San Francisco and San Jose, it's a favorite place for techies working at start-ups. It's centrally located and while it's not cheap to live there, it's cheaper than many surrounding areas.

San Bruno has a modest downtown, but the city itself is filled with fancy upscale shops that cater to visiting businesspeople and the area's hardworking tech workers.San Bruno has a number of great Filipino restaurants, including Kuya's and Patio Filipino. The San Bruno Park School district schools are considered to be quite good, especially in comparison to schools on the Oakland side of the Bay.There are a lot of singles in San Bruno and a number of places for them to meet. But due to the transient nature of the work and the number of start-ups, most f the singles seem to busy to date.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Since San Bruno is right next to the San Francisco International Airport, plane noise is a huge issue in many parts of town.Millbrae lies to the north and in comparison to San Bruno it is a much more residential and welcoming town. Unlike Millbrae, San Bruno doesn't seem to have a real town center and the glut of fancy chain boutiques only intensifies the feeling that San Bruno is cold and emotionless. San Bruno is the headquarters of YouTube, which might tell you all you need to know about the town.San Bruno is home to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, which is a world-renewed research hospital. It also has a large psychiatric center.San Bruno Mountain is a large urban park that spans nearly 3,000 acres. It has hiking and bike trails and offers some amazing views.
General comments
Being so close to the airport gives San Bruno a bit of a weird vibe. There are lots of hotels, which means a lot of visitors and people just in town for a few days. But there are also a number of longtime residents who work in small tech companies and the end result is a town that often feels cold and unappealing. The residents are friendly, but everyone just seems as if they're stopping in San Bruno on their way to somewhere else.
