Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
It's north county San Diego so it doesn't have much weather. It's predominantly about 76 degrees F year round. It very rarely rains. No snow whatsoever.
The summers get into the 80s and 90s but there is no humidity. The winters are mild going only really as low as 60.
There aren't many extreme weather cases to note. There are now and again small earthquakes but you can barely feel them. | | Honestly living there most of the crimes that were heard about through the grapevine happened in neighboring towns.
Anything that was upon the lines of somebody getting shot were rare and usually in a different town but just had the news travel over.
Every now and again a convenience store would get robbed but there was never anything huge that happened in the city itself. | | The best parts of town when somebody visits is the section of town with the Old Spaghetti Factory. A really good claim-to-fame restaurant in our town.
Most of the cool places to go were in neighboring towns. In Southern California you drive most of the places so if you were looking to do something within the town of San Marcos itself.. There's a 7-11, a high school, and the Old Spaghetti Factory.
There were convenience stores too but the true "better" part of town according to locals was the neighboring town of "Escondido" which isn't San Marcos at all!
San Marcos is predominantly white people, usually WASPs because we have a golf club there and most people would want to live in San Marcos for that. | | San Marcos always felt like it was full of old, conservative WASPs. On the whole it was much more conservative than people think.
There was much less exclusion in the conservative town than one would think even though it was so conservative but this was at a time when I was a bit younger and so I wasn't noticing it as much but there was definitely an ability to stand out (at least in my group) where people weren't being judged or hated for being who they were. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life |
There is a 7-11, The Old Spaghetti Factory, and convenience stores. There really isn't much to do as far as shopping or a downtown area. For major shopping more people leave the town and head over to the mall in Carlsbad. | | The Old Spaghetti Factory as I mentioned before is the only "claim-to-fame" place in San Marcos to eat. It's really the only good place we had to eat in the time I was living there and it was delicious. | | Good quality. It was nothing super fancy. It wasn't a rich school, but it was a public school system with a decent amount of money that got stuff done. The only time that it affected anyone that I know was that the school cut some funding to the music department; but there wasn't a lot of issue as far as being able to learn or graduate, and wealth. | | In neighboring towns such as Carlsbad there was a mall where people would go to hang out, but directly in San Marcos there isn't much in the way of people trying to meet each other. |
Noise | | town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions |
There was a major highway running through the town, which would affect anyone living there; but the way that the town was constructed many of the residential areas weren't affected by the sound of the highway. | | San Marcos in comparison to Escondido, San Marcos has a lower crime rate and the homes were newer and on the whole nicer. Yet Escondido had more to do so I suppose depending on what you want either one is better. San Marcos really doesn't have much to do so going into towns 15 to 20 minutes away would be what people did so that's why there's really only the one comparison to the nearby town. | | San Marcos Health Center was really the only true health center in town. The hospitals were off 20-30 minutes away and if you wanted help you usually went to a doctor's office instead. | | There are a couple parks but they are usually quiet and empty. Most people really just head over to the mall. There is a board game store a couple towns over but that's still pretty far away. There's not truly much to do in San Marcos. Besides go to the Old Spaghetti Factory. |
General comments | | | | | | |
Quiet, mostly. It's a bit boring to walk around because it's one of those sleepy towns where there isn't much to do for the younger people. Mostly if you're younger you'd leave the town and go to other towns or go over to friend's houses. There really isn't a bad vibe to it, just a boring one.
There's a quiet feeling of being watched as you walk the streets as they aren't bright enough for my taste but there really isn't any bad feelings or fearing for one's life. Walking to and from friend's houses without fear of getting lost or abducted was a common things. | | | | | | |
