Sandpoint, Idaho winters can get fairly cold, ranging from 20 degrees down to -20 degrees with heaving winds and snow up to a foot of snow or more. Heavy rain usually occurs in the spring to early summer with heavy flooding due to snow melting from mountains and heavy rains.Most of the crime in Sandpoint, Idaho is property crime, compared with a general low violent crime consisting of murder or rape. It is considered to be 9% safer than most cities in the U.S. It is safer to walk alone at night without being followed by some attacker, although would still take the usual precaution and keep a watch on surroundings and people around you.The best parts of Sandpoint are the streets of Division and Lincoln where the newer homes and apartments are located. The general downtown area of Boyer St. have moderately or lower-income homes and apartments. The neighborhoods are generally clean and for the most part kept clean. There are not too many neighborhoods or properties that are unkempt. For the most part, the residential areas are kept up nicely and give a neighborly feel to the homes.The people in Sandpoint, Idaho range from younger singles to young and older families. While there is a majority of white people, there is a few black and Latin, as well as a few Asian people, and educated and blue collar people too. There is general mixture of single vs. married people and families. A lot of the people are connected to families with strong family ties here in Sandpoint. Overall, it is easy to make friends with not too many cliques or groups.

The downtown area is perfect access with walking making a great distance to walk within the downtown area. Most businesses are within walking distance, and as mentioned earlier, makes Sandpoint a walking town.The best restaurants in Sandpoint is the Pie Hut where they have a huge assortment of pies to enable the customer to choose from. They Hydra is a steak restaurant for those who like steak. Not to mention Burger King, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Dominoes, for those who like their fast food.The schools are generally of high quality due to smaller classrooms, giving the teachers more individual time with students. There is 4 or more elementary schools from kindergarten through 5th grade, a middle school with grades 6-8 and a charter school with grades 6-12, a high school and a alternative school with grades 9-12.The most unusual noise in Sandpoint, Idaho is the train that runs through town several times of the day. This may cause a minor delay when it comes to getting to your job or other obligations.

Sandpoint, Idaho gives one a neighborly impression compared with larger towns of nearby Coeur d'Alene, which is only about a 45-mile drive from Sandpoint, and Spokane, Washington, about 30 more miles from Coeur d'Alene. The beauty of Lake Pend Oreille makes Sandpoint a popular resort town where visitors as well as residents can enjoy the beauty of the Lake at the city beach.The local hospital is Bonner General Hospital located downtown on 3rd Ave. It is the major hospital in town.Sandpoint has Traverse Park located on Lincoln and Pine Street, as well as the athletic club located just across the street. For those who like to browse the Internet or check out the latest book, the East Bonner County Library is located on Cedar and Division Street.Sandpoint, Idaho is a walking town with most stores in the downtown areas of Pine and Cedar streets within a good and safe walking distance within the two major grocery stores Super 1 Foods and Safeway. It has a walking or bike path along Sand Creek with lots of opportunity for fishing and swimming at the City Beach off Lake Pend Oreille. Sandpoint provides skiing at Schwietzwer Mountain Resort for the skier and snowboarder. The Spot Bus provides transportation to with two routes to get you were you need to go should you be without transportation during the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 7 days a week and is free to ride.
