Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Sandy, Oregon? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Sandy?
Stephanie Pedersen reports in this review:
Weather | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? | | Downtown Area | In sandy Oregon, the weather is pretty much the same as rhe rest of Oregon, until you get closer to the mountains, which Sandy is towards. Its rainy a lot during the year, off and on. The winters arent as bad as the winters in Chicago. It may snow a few inches and last for a few days, a few times a winter. But is is bearable. Summers, again, not as hot as Chicago, average I think is 75 through the summer. Nights are cool all seasons, but the days vary.
| | I love Sandy Oregon. I dont think there are any 'bad' parts of it. There are homes threw out that are not good places to visit, and they make themselves obvious. I used to love spending the day walking all through the town, from one end to the other, or walking to some hidden little creek, or swimming spot.
| | I would have to say that the people there are very nice. Growing up there, you learn who many of them are, here, as I have. The main races are white and hispanic, and both mutually friendly. Most are laid back and have either lived there for many many years, or came to sandy to buy or build their homes and settle down. Most enjoy the outdoors and are involved one way or another in the community.
| | I love the downtown, I love walking for the day from one end to the other, then back again. Everyone is friendly, theres a lot of nice family shops, and it has everything you need from have to haves, to ideas. From pleasantry to the eyes, and a last minuet stop. It has everything and is a blast. | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | | Noise | I would have to say that some of the best restaurants in my opinion are The Tollgate Inn, and the amazing Pizza place right directly across from it.... HANDS DOWN!
| | As a former student from 1st grade to 10th grade, and many of my cousins too. I love our schools. The teachers knew just as much about you as anyone else in town, and knew how to contact them. There were a lot of different sports and activities to do after class, through your school hosted by yours truly, family or neighbors.
| | Yes, there are opportunities for singles. Many of the people there know each other and families, and some are ok with getting to know the new people and some are a bit more hesitant.
| | There are none, and most homes don't sit anywhere near Hwy 26, so they are free from any noises really.
| town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | | General comments | The further you go towards Mt. Hood, the colder it gets. Past this is a town called Zig-Zag, and it is about 20 minuets East towards Mt. Hood. From there, the towns get further and further apart, till you reach Mt. Hood. The other direction leads to bigger and bigger towns, like Gresham, Oregon which is about 20 minuets west. Gresham is bigger and has a lot more stores as well as people. You become a little more invisible here because there are so many more people yet they all are on the same path of busy, busy, run, run, go, go, go, from one box to the next, never getting the chance to be outdoors and sit doing everything that matters sometimes...and sometimes that everything means doing 'nothing.'
Because in doing that nothing, we can clear our minds, think of the beauty thats around us, that we miss everyday. We think about great things, and we breath.
The further you go West, you hit downtown which means way more people. Way more people? Way more trancparent. Way more away from the trees, the solitude, the values of family v.s the city of Downtown Portland, where everyone is nothing but busy. | | The only closest hospital near is Mt. Hood Hospital in gresham, about 20 minuets east. They are pretty good, and I like that they dont ask for money or your insurance information before they treat you.
| | Mining Park, and for just a nice drive on any back road for the beauty of it. There is the Sandy Museum, and there are many wonderful events threw the year that make this place a home. Sandy Mountain Festival is by far the best of them.
| | This feels like home, because it is to me, built out of the foundation of many years past, the connection with family, familiar faces, holiday celebrations, while wishing on white Christmas's. You couldn't skip school cause by the time you made it to the road, someone seen you, that knew you and called your home. It's a place that many neighbors get together to start little projects, like gardening together, or selling flowers from your garden with your best friend, to people in the town. Or where the gents get together and BBQ and go shooting. Where kids learn to play outside, the value of hard work, where there is no computer Internet. Where kids can run and play, all day outside on the weekends after playing in the forest all day, going to the lake catching frogs and know to come in when it starts to get dark.
